【브레이크뉴스 대구 】박은정 기자=대구 동구청(구청장 배기철)은 폭염대응 일환으로 ‘스마트 그늘막’ 9개를 추가 설치하고 예년보다 이른 시기에 운영을 시작했다고 11일 밝혔다.
동구청은 지난 2018년부터 주요 횡단보도 및 교통섬에 스마트 그늘막을 설치해 운영 중에 있다. 올해 9개가 추가 돼 총 80여개소가 운영되며 올해 추가 설치된 곳은 용계동, 신서동, 신암동, 봉무동, 율하동 등이다.
스마트 그늘막은 사물인터넷(IoT)을 그늘막에 접목한 것으로 기존 접이식 그늘막보다 사용이 편리하고 고장이 적은 것이 장점이다.
외부에 설치된 측정기를 통해 날씨를 감지하는 기능을 갖춰 기온이 15도 이상 올라가면 자동으로 펼쳐지고, 초속 7m 이상의 강한 바람이 불거나 해가 지면 자동으로 접힌다.
아울러 동구청은 도로에서 신호를 기다리는 동안 잠시 휴식을 취할 수 있도록 ‘접이식 휴식의자’를 노약자들이 많이 이용하는 기존 그늘막에 부착해 그늘막의 기능을 한층 높이기로 했다.
휴식의자는 신암동, 동촌동, 효목동, 지저동, 해안동, 용계동 등 6개소 그늘막 아래 설치되었으며, 접이식으로 제작돼 공간 효율을 높이고 주민들의 통행에 불편을 줄였다.
휴식의자는 적은 힘으로도 펼쳐 편히 앉아 쉴 수 있어 더위에 지쳐 서있기 힘든 보행취약계층들에게 큰 도움이 될 것으로 보고 있다. 이밖에도 보행권 확보 및 보행환경 개선에 관한 조례를 제정해 안전하고 쾌적한 보행환경 조성에 힘쓸 예정이다.
배기철 동구청장은 “코로나로 지친 주민들이 곧 다가올 폭염에 더욱 힘들어할 것을 우려해 지역 주민들이 안전하게 여름을 지내고, 편안하게 보행할 수 있도록 최선을 다해 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.
