그는 “장차 9대 1로 가는 것, 당 대표 선출에 있어서는 당원의 뜻을 더 존중하는 것의 대원칙에는 동의한다.”면서 “그러나 지금 이미 전당대회 레이스가 시작된 것 같은데 룰을 바꾼다는 것은 불필요한 논란을 일으킬 수 있기 때문에 이번 전당대회에서 룰에 손을 대는 것은 우리가 정말 그래야 할 당위성이 충분해야만 하는 것이 맞지 않겠나?”라고 말했다.
아울러 나경원 부위원장은 2월 말에서 3월 초로 점쳐지고 있는 전당대회 시기에 대해 “비대위의 임기가 3월 13일로 종료되는 것으로 알고 있다.”면서 “그러다 보니까 2월 말 3월 초로 예상되는 것이 자연스러울 수 있지만 정국 상황이나 여러 가지 상황에 따라 한두 달 정도 연기되는 것은 큰 문제는 아니라고 생각한다.”고 덧붙여 말했다.
