【브레이크뉴스 대구】박은정 기자=대구 중구청(구청장 류규하)은 기존 동성로 야외무대를 재정비한 ‘동성로 28 ART SQUARE’ 제막식을 가졌다고 24일 밝혔다.
동성로 28 ART SQUARE는 공연연출, 도심디자인 개선 등을 통한 지역 브랜드 가치 제고의 필요성으로 특별교부금 9억원을 교부받아 추진했다.
야외무대의 명칭은 대백이 사라진 동성로의 랜드마크가 될 수 있는 이름을 부여하고자 한 동성로상점가 상인회의 제안으로 시민공모를 통해 ‘동성로 28 ART SQUARE’로 결정됐다.
기둥과 천장에 설치된 미디어 파사드 시스템과 기존 단상이 있는 무대개념을 전환하여, 성별·연령·문화·장애 유무에 상관없이 누구나 접근가능한 유니버설 디자인을 적용해 대구 시민 누구나 서고, 즐길 수 있는 개방형 문화예술공간의 기능과 시민들의 만남의 공간, 때로는 사회적 약자의 목소리를 전달하는 광장으로써의 기능도 하게될 것으로 기대된다.
류규하 중구청장은 “2021년 완료된 동성로 보행환경개선사업, 내년 예정된 동성로 미디어 아트월 사업과 더불어 이번 동성로 28 ART SQUARE의 완성으로 코로나19, 대구백점 폐업 등으로 침체된 동성로 상권에 새로운 활기를 불어넣고, 중구의 문화관광산업이 한 단계 도약할 수 있는 계기가 될 것으로 기대된다”고 밝혔다.
