한편 권택흥 예비후보는 영남대 총학생회장, 민주노총 대구지역본부 본부장을 지냈으며제21대 국회의원 선거에 달서구 갑에서 출마해 홍석준, 곽대훈 후보를 비롯한 6명의 후보들과 경쟁해 2위로 고배를 마셨다.
