국민의힘 소속이었던 정 부의장은 이미 탈당계를 제출한 상태로, 향후 도덕성 논란이 의회 안팎에서 지속될 것으로 보인다.

남구의회는 27일 제295회 제1차 정례회 제3차 본회의를 열고 정재목 부의장(무소속)에 대한 불신임안을 표결에 부쳤다. 불신임안은 재적의원 과반인 5명 이상의 찬성이 필요했으나, 표결 결과 찬성 3표, 무효 3표, 반대 1표로 부결됐다.

불신임안을 제출한 측은 “주민을 대표하는 선출직 공직자가 음주운전 방조라는 중대한 비위를 저지르고도 의정활동을 이어가는 것은 남구의 명예와 의회의 위상에 심각한 손상을 준다”며 책임 있는 처분을 요구했다.

정 부의장은 표결에 앞서 “물의를 일으켜 죄송하다”며 고개를 숙인 뒤 본회의장에서 퇴장했다.

정 부의장은 지난 4월 26일 밤, 대구 달서구의 한 도로에서 A씨(50대·여)의 음주운전을 방조한 혐의로 불구속 기소됐다. 

당시 정 부의장은 음주 상태로 일부 구간을 직접 운전한 뒤, 술을 마신 A씨에게 운전을 넘긴 것으로 알려졌다. A씨는 혈중알코올농도가 면허정지 수준이었고, 정 부의장은 훈방 수치인 0.03% 미만으로 측정됐다.

논란이 커지자 정 부의장은 지난 17일 국민의힘에 탈당계를 제출했으며, 대구시당은 별도 징계 절차 없이 탈당 처리를 완료했다고 밝혔다.

불신임안이 부결됐지만, 정치권 안팎에서는 선출직 공직자의 책임성과 의회 윤리에 대한 비판의 목소리가 이어지고 있다.
