【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자= (재)포항테크노파크(원장 배영호, 이하 포항TP)의 ‘중소벤처기업 AI 기술융합 스케일업 지원사업’의 지원을 받은 ㈜리하이와 ㈜브이스페이스가 국가 연구개발(R&D) 과제를 공동 수주하는 성과를 거뒀다.
포항TP가 주관하는 ‘중소벤처기업 AI 기술융합 스케일업 지원사업’은 경상북도의 지원으로 2022년부터는 포항TP가 주관하고, 포항공과대학교 인공지능연구원이 협력해 추진 중인 사업으로, 도내 기업을 대상으로 AI R&D 역량 강화를 지원하고 있다.
본 사업 지원 기업인 ㈜리하이와 ㈜브이스페이스는 포항공과대학교 인공지능연구원과 컨소시엄을 구성해 중소벤처기업부의 2025년도 ‘딥테크 챌린지 프로젝트’에 최종 선정됐다.
이번 선정된 과제는 ‘탑재중량 200kg 군수용 드론 및 온보드형 자율비행 핵심기술 개발’로, 총 36개월간(‵28년 8월까지) 진행되며 사업비는 36억 원 규모로 추진된다.
본 과제는 군수 물자 운송을 위한 200kg급 대형 드론과 인공지능 기반 자율비행 기술 확보를 목표로 하고 대형 군수용 드론 플랫폼과 기본 자율비행 기능을 포함한 핵심 요소 기술을 개발해 향후 군수·재난·물류 분야 등 다양한 산업 분야에서 활용될 것으로 기대된다.
특히 이번 성과는 지역 중소기업들이 AI 기술 역량을 기반으로 국가 R&D에 직접 참여하고 실질적인 성과를 창출했다는 점에서 의미가 크다. 대기업 중심으로 형성돼 있던 국내 무인비행체·드론 산업에서 중소기업의 역할이 확대되며 기술 다양성과 산업 경쟁력 강화에도 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 전망된다.
포항TP 배영호 원장은 “이번 사업 선정으로 지역 기업의 기술 역량 향상과 경북 지역의 AI 기술 생태계가 한 단계 도약하고 있음을 보여주는 성과”라며 “앞으로도 AI 기술 분야에서 지역 중소기업의 성장을 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Pohang Technology Partnership (TP) Secures KRW 3.6 Billion in AI R&D Funds for Two Companies
Leehigh Co., Ltd. and Vspace Co., Ltd., which received support from the Pohang Technopark (President Bae Young-ho, hereinafter Pohang TP)'s "Small and Medium Venture Business AI Technology Convergence Scale-up Support Project," have jointly won a national research and development (R&D) project.
The "Small and Medium Venture Business AI Technology Convergence Scale-up Support Project," hosted by Pohang TP, is a collaborative project with the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POST) Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, and with support from the Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. Starting in 2022, the project will be led by Pohang TP and supported by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. It supports the strengthening of AI R&D capabilities for local companies.
Leehigh Co., Ltd. and Vspace Co., Ltd., the recipients of this project, formed a consortium with the POSTECH Artificial Intelligence Research Institute and were selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' 2025 "Deep Tech Challenge Project."
The selected project, "Development of Core Technologies for a 200kg Payload Military Drone and Onboard Autonomous Flight," will run for 36 months (until August 2028) and is budgeted at KRW 3.6 billion.
This project aims to secure a 200kg-class large drone for military material transport and AI-based autonomous flight technology. The project aims to develop a large military drone platform and core technology, including basic autonomous flight capabilities, for future use in various industries, including military, disaster management, and logistics.
This achievement is particularly significant because it demonstrates the direct participation of local SMEs in national R&D and the tangible results they have achieved based on their AI capabilities. The expanded role of SMEs in the domestic unmanned aerial vehicle and drone industry, previously dominated by large corporations, is expected to have a positive impact on technological diversity and industrial competitiveness.
Pohang TP Director Bae Young-ho said, “This project selection is an achievement that shows that local companies are improving their technological capabilities and that the AI technology ecosystem in Gyeongbuk is taking a leap forward,” and added, “We will continue to actively support the growth of local small and medium-sized enterprises in the AI technology field.”
