이번 현장 방문은 2025년 12월 경주시 조직개편에 따라 경제산업위원회 소관으로 새롭게 편입된 스마트미디어센터의 운영 현황을 면밀히 파악하고, 향후 의정활동에 필요한 기초 자료를 확보하기 위해 마련됐다.

위원들은 스마트미디어센터의 공간 구성과 시설 운영 현황을 둘러본 뒤, 인공지능(AI) 시대를 맞아 시민을 대상으로 운영 중인 ‘챗GPT 원데이 클래스’ 등 다양한 교육 프로그램에 대해 설명을 듣는 시간을 가졌다.

이와 함께 스마트관광도시 조성 안정화 사업과 2026 경주 APEC XR 모빌리티 투어버스 운영 사업 등 주요 추진 사업에 대한 보고를 받고, 사업 추진 과정에서의 개선 방향과 발전 방안에 대해서도 심도 있는 논의를 진행했다.

정종문 경제산업위원장은 “포스트 APEC 시대를 대비해 스마트미디어센터가 중심이 돼 스마트관광도시 경주를 널리 알리고, AI 시대에 부합하는 다양한 콘텐츠를 개발해 나가길 기대한다”며 “의회 차원에서도 지속적인 관심과 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 말했다.
