추 의원은 만약 민주당이 법안을 계속 보류한다면 “500만 대구·경북 시·도민이 그 책임을 반드시 물을 것”이라고 강하게 압박했다. 또 “수도권 일극 체제를 넘어서고, 지역 소멸 위기를 막아내기 위해 꼭 필요한 통합을 정치적 이유로 자꾸 미루는 건 지역민을 배신하는 일”이라고 지적했다.
마지막으로 추 의원은 △법제사법위원회 즉시 소집 및 법안 상정과 심사, △본회의 상정과 신속 처리, △처리 거부나 보류 시 그 이유 공개 및 지역과의 공개 토론에 응할 것 등을 요구했다. 그는 “즉각적인 처리가 그나마 역사 앞에서 최소한의 책임을 다하는 길”이라고 밝혔다.
