추 의원은 “정치공작에 불과하다”며 강하게 반발했다.

이날 추 의원은 입장문을 내고 “불체포특권을 포기하고 법과 절차에 따라 당당히 재판에 임하고 있다”고 밝혔다.

 또 “이번 기소는 개인을 겨냥한 것이 아니라 국민의힘을 위헌 정당으로 몰아 해산시키려는 정치공작”이라며 “재판을 통해 진실이 밝혀질 것”이라고 주장했다.

이어 “끝까지 법과 원칙에 따라 싸우겠다”고 강조했다.

추 의원의 공판은 서울중앙지법 형사합의34부(재판장 한성진) 심리로 진행된다.

검찰은 추 의원이 12·3 비상계엄 당시 의원총회 소집 장소를 세 차례 변경하며 다수 의원들의 계엄 해제 의결 참여를 방해했다고 보고 있다. 

반면 추 의원 측은 “정치적 의도가 개입된 무리한 기소”라는 입장이다.

The trial of People Power Party Representative Choo Kyung-ho, who was indicted on charges of engaging in important duties related to insurrection, began in earnest on the 25th at the Seoul Central District Court.

Representative Choo's trial is being presided over by the 34th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Han Sung-jin).

The prosecution believes that Representative Choo obstructed the participation of many lawmakers in the resolution to lift martial law by changing the location of the general assembly of lawmakers three times during the December 3rd state of emergency. On the other hand, Rep. Chu's side maintains that it is an "unreasonable indictment driven by political motives."
