30일 국민의힘 김상훈 의원(대구 서구, 기획재정위원회)은 “코레일, ㈜SR로부터 제출받은 ‘서대구역 일일 수송실적 현황’자료를 통해 26일 기준 승차 인원 66만6,507명, 하차 인원 65만4,430명으로 집계되어 총 132만937명이 서대구역을 이용한 것을 확인했다.”고 밝혔다.

서대구역의 최근 일주일간 평균 이용객 수는 3,796명으로 집계되어 개통 1주차 평균 이용객 수 2,216명과 비교하면 71.3% 증가한 것이 확인 되었다.

대구 서부권 교통의 중심 역할을 하며 개통 이후 꾸준히 이용객이 늘어나는 추세로 하루 이용객 수가 가장 많은 날은 6,119명(23년 2월 19일 일요일)으로 집계됐다. 개통 첫날 1,630명과 비교하면 최대 3.75배 증가한 수치다. 가장 적은 날은 1,108명(22년 9월 6일 화요일)으로 나타났다.

주말에는 평균 4,937명, 주중에는 평균 3,142명이 이용하는 것으로 나타났다. 요일별 평균으로는 월요일 3,149명, 화요일 2,667명, 수요일 2,710명, 목요일 2,906명, 금요일 4,259명, 토요일 4,759명, 일요일 5,113명을 기록했다.

김상훈 의원은 “서대구역 이용객이 안정적으로 증가함에 따라 서대구역 후속 사업인 역세권개발사업 또한 탄력을 받게 될 것으로 기대된다.”고 밝혔다.

역세권개발사업을 통해 서대구역 남측은 환승 시설, 청년·기업 지원시설과 같은 공공기능을 중심으로, 북측은 대규모 쇼핑몰, 호텔, 오피스텔, 문화시설 등 복합공간으로 조성될 예정이다.

또한 2024년 개통 예정인 대구권 광역철도와 함께 대구산업선, 달빛내륙철도, 통합신공항철도 등 총 5개의 철도 노선 연계를 추진하고 있어 서대구역의 잠재적인 미래 이용 수요 또한 탄탄할 것으로 전망된다.
