올해 대구 서구 염색산단에서 수차례 폐수 유출 사고가 발생하면서 주민들의 불안감이 높아지고 있다.

지난 8일에도 공단천 하수관로를 통해 악취와 함께 흰색 폐수가 방류되는 사고가 발생해 지역 내 환경 문제가 심각한 상태다.

이에 김 의원은 “대구지방환경청과 대구시가 즉시 합동 현장 점검을 강화하고, 책임자 처벌과 폐수 유출 가능 시설의 완전 밀폐화 등 근본적인 재발 방지 대책을 마련해야 한다”고 촉구했다.

이와 함께 그는 지연되고 있는 서대구 하·폐수처리장 통합 지하화 사업의 조속한 추진을 홍준표 대구시장에게 건의했다.

김 의원은“서대구 하·폐수처리장 통합지하화사업은 서구 주민들의 환경권 보호와 서대구 역세권 개발의 핵심 사업인 만큼, 대구시의 적극적인 사업 추진을 기대한다”며 “폐수 유출 사고로 불안해하는 지역 주민들을 위해 철저한 조사와 책임자 처벌, 지속적인 모니터링 시스템 구축 등 재발 방지 대책 마련에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
