이번 사업은 지역 주민의 정신건강 정보 접근성을 높이고, 위기 상황 발생 시 적절한 도움을 받을 수 있는 지원 체계를 구축하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위해 군은 언론 및 SNS 홍보, 각종 홍보물 제작·배포, 지역 행사 연계 캠페인, 찾아가는 교육 프로그램 등 다각적인 홍보·교육 활동을 병행할 계획이다.

특히 3월부터 5월까지 운영되는 자살 고위험군 집중관리 기간에는 재래시장과 읍·면 사무소를 중심으로 자살예방 캠페인과 생명지킴이 교육을 강화하고, 현수막과 전광판을 활용한 홍보를 확대한다. 9월 자살예방의 날과 10월 정신건강의 날을 전후해서는 집중 홍보주간을 운영해 군민 인식 개선에 나설 방침이다.

또한 산나물축제, 군민체육대회, 장애인의 날 행사 등 지역 대표 행사와 연계해 정신건강 체험부스를 운영하고, 마음건강 검진과 스트레스 검사, 포토존 및 캠페인 활동 등 참여형 프로그램을 통해 군민 체감도를 높일 계획이다.

아울러 초·중·고등학교를 대상으로 한 정신건강 체험부스 운영과 마을회관·경로당 중심의 생명존중안심마을 사업을 추진한다. 노인·청년·직장인 등 생애주기별 맞춤형 교육도 병행해 촘촘한 지역 정신건강 안전망을 구축한다는 구상이다.
