영양군에 따르면 2025년 8월부터 2026년 2월까지 6개월간 인구가 5.4% 증가해 도내 시·군 가운데 가장 높은 증가율을 기록했다. 같은 기간 울진군이 0.1% 증가에 그친 반면, 포항시와 구미시 등 주요 도시는 감소세를 보이며 대조를 이뤘다.

특히 영양군은 2025년 8월 인구 1만5,165명으로 역대 최저치를 기록했으나, 반년 만에 1만6,006명(2026년 3월 15일 기준)으로 늘어나며 무너졌던 ‘1만6천 명 선’을 3년 만에 회복했다.
