이번 수상은 지역 소멸 위기 극복을 위한 선제적 정책 추진과 주민 체감형 행정 성과를 대외적으로 인정받은 결과로 평가된다.

영양군은 지속 가능한 성장 기반 구축과 주민 삶의 질 향상을 군정 핵심 과제로 삼아왔다. 특히 2조6천억 원 규모의 양수발전소 유치에 성공해 ▲지원금 936억 원 확보 ▲연간 14억 원 규모 지방세수 증대 ▲150여 명 상시 일자리 창출 등 중장기 성장 동력을 마련했다.

또한 총 62건의 공모사업을 통해 국·도비 약 1,740억 원을 확보하며 재정 여건이 열악한 군 단위 지자체의 한계를 극복했다. 2026년 지방소멸대응기금사업 평가에서는 전국 최고 등급을 받아 국비 120억 원을 확보, 정주 여건 개선을 통한 인구 감소 대응의 기반도 다졌다.

체감형 복지 정책도 주목받았다. 경북에서 유일하게 농어촌 기본소득 대상지로 선정돼 군민에게 월 20만 원을 지급하고 있으며, 전 군민 농어촌버스 무료화 정책을 통해 교통비 부담을 완화하는 등 생활 밀착형 정책을 확대해 왔다.

영양군 관계자는 “이번 수상은 군민과 행정이 함께 소통하며 만들어낸 공동의 성과”라며 “대한민국을 대표하는 행정혁신도시로서 군민이 체감할 수 있는 변화를 지속적으로 추진하겠다”고 밝혔다.
