【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=대구한의대학교 반려동물보건학과와 한국애견협회(KKC)가 공동 주최한 ‘제1회 DHU-KKC 진돗개 품평회’가 성황리에 열렸다.

대구한의대학교(총장 변창훈)는 지난 22일 삼성캠퍼스 3T공원에서 해당 품평회를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 우리나라 대표 토종견인 진돗개의 혈통과 외형적 특성을 과학적이고 체계적으로 평가하고, 건전한 반려문화 확산과 학문·산업 간 융합 기반을 강화하기 위해 마련됐다. 특히 대학과 전문 협회가 협력해 교육·연구·산업을 연계한 현장형 프로그램이라는 점에서 의미를 더했다.

행사는 개회식을 시작으로 운영 방식과 심사 기준 안내에 이어 본 심사가 진행됐다. 심사는 자견·유견·성견 등 연령별과 수컷·암컷 성별로 구분해 실시됐으며, 체형 균형, 골격 구조, 모질 상태, 행동 특성, 혈통 순수성 등을 종합적으로 평가했다.

이번 대회에는 전국 각지에서 출품된 우수 진돗개들이 참가해 높은 수준의 경쟁을 펼쳤으며, KKC 공인 심사위원단이 참여해 공정성과 전문성을 확보했다.

시상식에서는 부문별 우수견을 선정한 데 이어 전체 출진견 가운데 최고 개체를 가리는 BIS(Best in Show)와 Reserve BIS가 수여돼 관심을 모았다. 또한 클래스별 다양한 시상이 진행돼 참가자들의 호응을 얻었다.

이재연 대구한의대학교 반려동물보건학과장은 “이번 행사를 통해 진돗개의 가치와 산업적 가능성을 재조명하고, 학생들의 실무 역량을 높이는 계기가 될 것”이라고 말했다.

최재헌 한국애견협회 대회장은 “토종견의 경쟁력 강화와 건전한 반려문화 정착에 기여할 것으로 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

한편 대구한의대학교는 교육부 ‘글로컬대학 30’ 사업을 기반으로 산업 연계 교육을 확대하고 있으며, 반려동물보건학과는 바이오·헬스케어와 반려동물 산업을 융합한 특성화 교육과정을 운영하고 있다.

이번 품평회는 학계와 산업계, 반려인이 함께한 교류의 장으로 평가되며, 향후 정례화에 대한 기대를 모으고 있다.

Daegu Hani University Successfully Hosts ‘1st DHU-KKC Jindo Dog Show’

The ‘1st DHU-KKC Jindo Dog Show,’ jointly hosted by the Department of Companion Animal Health at Daegu Hani University and the Korea Kennel Club (KKC), was held with great success.

Daegu Hani University (President Byun Chang-hoon) announced that it held the show on the 22nd at 3T Park on the Samsung Campus.

This event was organized to scientifically and systematically evaluate the pedigree and physical characteristics of the Jindo dog, Korea’s representative native breed, and to strengthen the foundation for the convergence between academia and industry and the spread of a healthy companion animal culture. It holds particular significance as a field-oriented program linking education, research, and industry through the cooperation of a university and a professional association.

The event began with an opening ceremony, followed by an explanation of the operational procedures and judging criteria, and then the main judging took place. Judging was conducted by age (puppies, puppies, and adults) and gender (male/female), comprehensively evaluating body proportions, skeletal structure, coat condition, behavioral characteristics, and bloodline purity.

Outstanding Jindo dogs from across the country participated in this competition, engaging in high-level competition. The participation of a KKC-certified judging panel ensured fairness and professionalism.

At the awards ceremony, following the selection of outstanding dogs in each category, the Best in Show (BIS) and Reserve BIS awards were presented to the top individual among all entries, drawing significant attention. Additionally, various awards were presented by class, receiving a positive response from the participants.

Choi Jae-heon, Chairman of the Korea Kennel Club, stated, "We expect this event to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of native dog breeds and establishing a sound companion animal culture." Meanwhile, Daegu Hani University is expanding industry-linked education based on the Ministry of Education’s ‘Glocal University 30’ project, and the Department of Companion Animal Health is operating a specialized curriculum that integrates bio-healthcare with the companion animal industry.

This evaluation event is regarded as a venue for exchange involving academia, industry, and companion animal owners, and is garnering expectations for becoming a regular event in the future.
