【브레이크뉴스 대구 】이성현 기자=권영진 대구시장이 8년의 임기를 마치고 30일 퇴임했다. 

그의 마지막 퇴근길에는 그와 함께 8년간 대구시정을 이끌어 온 대구시공무원과 전직 시장, 경제계와 종교계, 그리고 각 사회단체 관계자 및 그를 사랑하는 400여명의 시민들이 함께 했다. 

당초 퇴임식을 하지 않고 직원들과 간단한 인사 정도만 한 뒤 조용히 이임하려 했던 그의 생각을 주변에서 만류한 것으로 알려졌다. 그렇더라도 그의 생각을 반영해 최소한으로 행사를 준비한 것으로 알려진다.

권 시장은 이날 자신이 무사히 대구시장직을 마감할 수 있도록 응원한 대구시민들을 대신해 행사장에 참석한 이들에 큰 절을 올렸다. 

그는 그러면서 당분간은 쉬겠다고....그리고 어느 곳, 어느 자리에 있든 대구와 대한민국을 위해 헌신 봉사하겠다고 약속했다. 그의 육성이 마이크를 통해 흘러나올 때 그의 등 뒤 너머에는 “길이 끝나는 곳에도 길이 있다. 길이 끝나는 곳에서도 길이 되는 사람이 있다”는 글귀가 커다랗게 씌어 있었다.
