우동기 대구가톨릭대 제27대 총장의 퇴임미사가 20일 교내 성당에서 교직원 및 학생 등 200여 명이 참석한 가운데 진행되었다.

이날 미사에서는 우동기 총장의 대학 발전에 헌신한 노고를 기리며 감사패를 전달하고 기념영상 시청과 함께 재임 기간 중 업적을 되돌아보는 시간이 이어졌다.

2021년 1월 취임한 우동기 총장은 캠퍼스 전역에 지방대학 최대 규모 와이파이 6 개통, 105개 첨단강의실 구축, 중앙도서관 미래형 학습공간 리모델링 등 미래교육 환경을 조성했고, 전국 대학 최초로 온라인 교육 중심 단과대학인 ‘유스티노자유대학’, 3년제 과정의 반도체대학을 신설하는 등 새로운 시대에 필요한 새로운 교육체제를 선도적으로 추진했다. 

우동기 총장의 대구가톨릭대 총장 임기는 20일 종료되며, 지난 1일 자로 위촉된 대통령 직속 국가균형발전위원회 위원장 직무에 전념할 계획이다. 앞으로 대구가톨릭대 총장 직무는 성한기 교학부총장이 대행하게 된다.

우동기 총장은 퇴임사를 통해 “길지 않은 재임기간 동안 대구가톨릭대 공동체의 모든 일원이 보여준 헌신과 희생은 매순간 감동이었다. 변화의 여정을 열어놓고 함께 하지 못하게 된 마음이 무겁기에 앞으로 주어지는 임무를 충실히 하면서 계속해서 대구가톨릭대의 발전과 건승을 기원하며 열심히 뛰어보려고 한다.”고 말했다.
