달서구는 자원 재활용 및 나눔문화 확산을 위해 도로 등에 무단방치 된 자전거를 수거한 후 사용 가능한 자전거 33대를 수리해 와룡성심지역아동센터, 대구달서구가족지원센터, 본리종합사회복지관 등 11개 기관을 통해 저소득층에 기증했다.
지역 내 무단방치 자전거는 매년 200대 가량 꾸준히 발생하고 있다.
보행자 통행방해 및 도시미관 저해 등으로 신고 된 무단방치 자전거는 10일 이상의 계고 후 소유자가 없는 경우 수거․보관 후 14일 이상의 공고를 거쳐 처분된다.
그동안 수거된 무단방치 자전거의 경우 대부분 고철로 매각 됐으나, 그 중 상태가 양호한 자전거를 선별․수리하여 자전거 이용 활성화를 위해 필요한 곳에 재활용자전거를 기증했다.
이태훈 달서구청장은 “앞으로도 무단방치 자전거 정비 및 기증 사업을 지속적으로 추진해 쾌적한 거리 환경 조성 및 자원 재활용, 나눔문화 확산에 기여하도록 노력하겠다"며"구민들도 대표적인 녹색교통수단인 자전거를 많이 이용하여 탄소중립 참여”를 당부했다.
