20일 입장문을 낸 이태훈 구청장은 “시민의 뜻과 대구의 정체성을 외면한 설계”라며 대구시에 설계안 전면 재검토를 촉구했다.

또 “심사 기준에 ‘대구의 정체성’과 ‘도시 상징성’이 얼마나 반영됐는지 묻지 않을 수 없다”며 “절차만으로는 대구의 미래 100년을 책임질 수 없다”고 비판했다.

그는 특히 시민 의견 수렴이 형식적 절차에 그쳤다고 주장했다. “시민과 전문가 의견을 충분히 반영했다는 대구시의 말과 달리, 실제 설계에 우려 사항이 반영되지 않았다”며 “13일 기자회견 당시 구청 출입을 막은 것이 시민 의견을 듣는 자세냐”고 반문했다.

이 구청장은 “지금은 기본 및 실시 설계가 시작되는 시점으로, 보완할 수 있는 마지막 기회”라며 “지금 바로잡지 않으면 평범한 관공서 건물로 남게 될 것”이라고 강조했다.

이어 “서울시청은 전통과 현대의 조화를, 광주시청은 민주화 정신을 담았다. 대구 신청사에는 대구의 어떤 정신이 담겨 있느냐”고 덧붙였다.

끝으로 이 구청장은 “절차는 바꿀 수 있지만 도시의 얼굴은 단 한 번뿐”이라며 “지금 필요한 것은 불편한 목소리를 듣는 용기이자, 대구의 100년을 책임지겠다는 결단”이라고 말했다.
