24일 오후 2시 대구시의회 1층 로비에서 대구시의회 전체의원과 광주시의회 정무창 의장, 강수훈 운영위원장, 임미란 행정자치위원장, 조석호 환경복지위원장, 김나윤 산업건설위원장, 명진, 김용임, 안평환, 홍기월 의원 등 9명의 광주시의원이 모인 가운데 달빛철도특별법 제정 촉구 성명이 발표되었다.

공동성명서 발표는 전경원 대구시의회 운영위원장의 사회로 이만규 의장과 정무창 의장의 인사말씀, 양 도시 의원들의 공동성명서 발표 및 기념촬영 순으로 진행됐다.

대구·광주광역시의회 의원들은 성명서를 통해 “헌정사상 최다인 261명 국회의원 이름으로 발의되었지만 경제성을 앞세운 기획재정부의 예타논리에 가로막혀 해가 바뀐 지금까지 여전히 국회에 계류 중”이라고 통탄했다.

이어 “달빛철도는 영호남인의 오랜 숙원인 지역 간 화합을 이루고 대구와 광주를 동서로 이어 소멸위기에 빠진 지방을 살려 국토균형발전을 이끌어 낼 상징적인 사업”이라고 강조했다.

그러면서 “얄팍한 경제논리와 정치적 이해득실에 빠져 달빛철도특별법 제정을 미루는 것은 시대착오적이며 역사적 심판에 직면할 것”이라고 경고했다.

이날 대구·광주광역시의회 의원 일동은 달빛철도는 어떠한 논리로도 거부할 수 없는 시대적 소명이라는데 의견을 같이 하면서 성공적 건설을 위해 적극적으로 협력할 것을 다짐했다.

아울러 대구·광주광역시의회는 달빛철도 건설이 성공하는 날까지 함께 힘을 모으고 앞장설 것을 약속하며 ‘달빛철도특별법’ 즉시 제정을 촉구했다.
