정치권 한 관계자는 “아직까지 기소 전이고, 도당이나 도의회가 수사권 등이 없다 보니 형식적인 조사가 이뤄질 수밖에 없고, 조사 자체도 제대로 이뤄지지 않는다. 또, 당초 혐의와 달리 무혐의로 끝나는 상황도 있는 만큼, 신중을 기한다는 취지로 윤리위원회의를 소집하지 않은 경향이 있었다”면서 “취지는 이해하지만, 정당이나 의회 차원의 윤리위 역할이 유명무실하고 지역민(유권자)에 대한 예를 다하지 않는다는 지적이 많다. 특히, 그런 과정 등이 하나둘씩 생략하고 묵인되다 보니 작금에 와서 정치인들의 수준이 점점 낮아지고 있다”고 지적했다.
이어 그는 “당장 조사를 하게 되든, 하지 않게 되든 그 입장조차도 도의회 및 도당 윤리위가 내놓는 시스템 정착이 필요하다. 이런저런 이유와 관례를 핑계로 구성되어 있는 기구조차 제대로 활용하지 않게 되면 정치인들의 무책임한 언행만을 길러줄 뿐”이라고 강조했다.
