1일 오전 10시 30분 기자회견을 개최한 김용판 의원은 “이번 총선에서 달서구병 국회의원이 누가 되느냐에 따라 달서구 발전 성공여부가 판가름 날 것”이라며 “적어도 신청사 건립 등 달서구 현안 문제해결을 위해서는 반드시 대구시와 접점을 이룰 수 있는 사람, 가교 역할을 할 사람이 필요하다”고 말했다.

그러면서 그는 “대구시와 갈등을 유발하는 사람, 항로의 암초 같은 사람이 우리 달서구병 국회의원이 되어서는 안된다”고 강조했다. 

이는 앞서 신청사 건립 문제를 두고 갈등을 빚었던 권영진 전 대구시장을 겨냥한 발언으로 분석된다. 

김용판 의원은 지난해 10월 23일 권 전 시장이 페이스북에 올린 글을 언급하며 “대구시 신청사 건립기금 1천 765억 원 중 1천 368억 원이 권영진 전 시장 임기 때 유용됐다”며 “홍준표 시장에게 돈이 없어 신청사 건립을 못한다는 명분을 준 것”이라고 말했다.

그러면서 “저를 참 나쁜 국회의원이라고 말씀하셨는데, 참 염치없는 전임 대구시장이다”라고 대립각을 세웠다.

김 의원은 “허울뿐인 약속은 하지않는다”며 “다가오는 총선에서 재선이 되면 홍준표 시장과 합의한 대로 신청사 건립이 잘 마무리되도록 온 힘을 쏟겠다”고 약속했다.

이와 함께 두류공원 일대의 관광특구 지정, 경천철 도입과 도로정비를 통한 주민의 교통 편의증진, 노인복지의 일환으로 경로당에 지원되는 지원금에 대한 재량권 확대 추진 등을 공약으로 제시했다.

그는 달서구 유권자들을 향해 “재선이라는 더 큰 힘으로, 더 나은 달서구병, 더 좋은 대한민국을 만들도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 다짐했다.
