이날 간담회에서는 ▲국제학교 유치 ▲핵융합 핵심기술 개발 및 첨단 인프라 구축 ▲그래핀스퀘어 포항공장 준공 ▲글로벌 AI데이터센터 구축 ▲2026년 본예산 편성 ▲포항시시설관리공단 조직개편 ▲농작물 피해 대책 등 다양한 현안에 대한 보고와 심도 있는 논의가 이뤄졌다.

의원들은 국제학교 유치와 관련해 “재정 부담이 큰 사업인 만큼 국비 확보에 총력을 기울이고, 추진 과정과 세부 계획을 시민들에게 투명하게 공개해야 한다”고 강조했다. 또한 “과거 국제학교 설립이 무산된 사례를 교훈 삼아, 이번 사업은 철저한 준비와 관리로 반드시 성과를 내야 한다”고 당부했다.

핵융합 기술개발사업과 관련해서는 “사업 명칭이 ‘미래청정에너지’에서 ‘핵융합’으로 변경된 배경에 대해 명확한 설명이 필요하다”며 “핵융합이라는 용어가 시민들에게 다소 생소할 수 있는 만큼, 공청회 등 다양한 방법을 통해 주민 수용성을 확보해야 한다”고 주문했다.

글로벌 AI데이터센터 구축과 관련해서는 “포항 산업구조를 한 단계 도약시킬 핵심 사업”이라며 “전력 확보가 사업 추진의 관건인 만큼, 현재 확보 상황과 향후 수요를 면밀히 분석하고 의회와 긴밀히 협력해달라”고 요청했다.

또한 의원들은 지역경제 침체로 어려움을 겪는 시민들을 위해 “체감 가능한 민생 안정 대책과 지역경제 활성화 예산을 우선 편성해야 한다”고 강조했다. 더불어 “시설관리공단 내 신설된 안전감사실을 중심으로 시민 안전사고 예방에 철저를 기해 달라”고 덧붙였다.

이 밖에도 재선충 방제와 관련해 “도심 공원 내 재선충 피해를 사전에 차단해야 한다”고 강조하고, 최근 잦은 강우로 인한 벼·사과 등 농작물 피해에 대해서는 “피해 농가에 대한 정확한 실태조사와 신속한 보상이 이루어져야 한다”고 요청했다.

김일만 의장은 “이번 간담회는 시의회와 집행부가 지역 현안을 공유하고 해결책을 함께 모색하기 위한 소통의 장”이라며 “시민 행복 증진과 지역 발전을 위해 협력과 소통을 지속하겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 간담회 후 의원들은 창포동 무료급식소 ‘창포사랑나눔터’를 방문해 의사모(의회를 사랑하는 사람들의 모임) 회원들과 함께 배식 봉사활동을 펼쳤으며, 급식소 관계자들과의 간담회를 통해 현장의 건의사항을 청취하고 관계자들을 격려했다.
