이날 간담회는 시장 부재 상황 속에서 시의회와 집행기관 간 소통을 통해 지역 현안과 주요 사업을 차질 없이 추진하기 위해 마련됐다. 김일만 의장을 비롯해 부의장과 상임위원장, 포항시 간부 공무원들이 참석했다.

의회는 이날 포항시로부터 ▲제9회 전국동시지방선거 공명선거 추진 ▲신속집행 추진 및 2027년도 국비 확보 ▲K-스틸법 시행령 주요 추가지원사항 반영 ▲글로벌 헬스케어 의공학 연구소 개소 ▲AI 국제기구 APEC AI센터 포항 유치 ▲포항시 유네스코 창의도시(미식 분야) 네트워크 가입 추진 등 다양한 현안에 대한 설명을 듣고 의견을 교환했다.

간담회에 참석한 의원들은 제9회 전국동시지방선거 준비 상황을 점검하며 법정 선거사무의 철저한 추진을 당부했다. 또 2027년 국비 확보와 영일만 횡단대교 건설 등 주요 사업의 원활한 추진을 위해 시의회와 지역 국회의원 등 정치권 간 협력이 중요하다며 긴밀한 소통을 강조했다.

또한 철강 산업 위기 극복을 위한 K-스틸법 시행령 준비 상황을 확인하고 저탄소 철강산업 전환을 위한 집행기관의 적극적인 역할을 주문했다. 이와 함께 지역 경제 활성화를 위해 포스코와의 협력 강화도 요청했다.

의원들은 스마트 연어양식 사업의 성공적 추진과 함께 향후 북방항로 개방 시 포항의 지리적 이점을 활용한 지역 수산물 수출 확대 등 선제적 대응 준비도 주문했다. 또한 포항 글로벌 AI 데이터센터 등 추진 중인 각종 사업에 대해 시의회와의 적극적인 소통과 현안 공유를 통해 원활한 추진을 요청했다.

김일만 의장은 “간담회에서 논의된 현안과 주요 사업 추진 과정에서 시민 의견을 충분히 반영해 달라”며 “임기가 얼마 남지 않았지만 시의회는 시민과 소통하는 열린 의회를 구현하고 의원의 책무를 다하는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
