학산천 생태하천 복원사업은 우현도시숲부터 중앙동 행정복지센터, 동빈내항까지 총 0.9km 구간의 하천 생태계를 회복해 수질 개선과 친환경 시민 공간을 조성하는 내용이다. 애초 2023년 12월 준공 예정이었으나 공정 지연으로 수차례 일정이 연장된 바 있다. 시는 오는 8일 ‘물길맞이 행사’를 앞두고 있어, 위원회는 현장을 방문해 마무리 단계를 점검했다.

이어 위원들은 지난 2022년 착공돼 2026년 5월 입주 예정인 학산공원 민간공원 특례사업지 주변 통학로를 확인했다. 해당 지역에는 항도초등학교, 포항중학교 등 4개 학교가 인접해 있으나 통학로 폭이 좁아 사고 위험이 꾸준히 제기돼 왔다. 위원회는 내년 대단지 입주로 학생 이동량이 크게 늘어날 것으로 예상되는 만큼 개선이 시급하다는 데 의견을 모았다.

위원들은 두 현장에서 추진 현황 보고를 받고 안전성 확보, 문제점 보완, 사업 효과 극대화 방안에 대해 관계부서와 논의했다.

김철수 건설도시위원장은 “현장에서 확인된 문제점에 대해 실효성 있는 대책을 마련해 사업이 차질 없이 진행돼야 한다”며 “특히 학생들의 안전은 어떤 사안보다 우선돼야 하는 만큼 안전한 통학 환경 조성에 행정력을 집중해달라”고 강조했다.
