이날 방문한 원생들은 김일만 의장의 환영 인사를 받은 뒤 본회의장과 홍보관 등 의회 주요 시설을 둘러보며 지방의회의 역할과 기능을 체험했다.

특히 어린이들은 김 의장에게 바라는 점을 적은 손편지를 전달하고, 질의응답 시간을 통해 의회가 어떤 일을 하는 곳인지에 대해 어린이 눈높이에 맞춘 설명을 들으며 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌다.

김일만 의장은 “오늘의 방문이 어린이들에게 소중한 추억이자, 미래를 이끌어갈 민주시민으로 성장하는 계기가 되길 바란다”며 “아이들이 전해 준 편지에 담긴 소중한 바람들이 실현될 수 있도록 의정활동에 더욱 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
