【브레이크뉴스 울릉】전종환 기자=최경환 전 경제부총리가 올해 첫날 울릉도를 찾아 경북 지역 리더들과 동행하며 새해 해맞이 행사를 진행했다고 2일 밝혔다. 

최 전 부총리 측에 따르면 이번 행사는 울릉도 저동항 일대에서 진행됐다. 최 전 부총리를 비롯해 경북 지역 리더 20여 명과 주민들이 함께 모여 첫 일출을 맞으며 소망을 나눴다.

최 전 부총리는 “경북의 아침을 가장 먼저 깨운다”는 상징적인 의미를 내세우며, 지역 현안에 대한 관심과 해소 의지를 드러냈다. 이어 “2026년이 경북의 경제와 정치가 술술 풀리는 희망의 원년이 되길 진심으로 바란다”는 포부를 밝혔다.

최 전 부총리는 최근 영남대 특강에서 ‘경북 경제 위기 극복’을 언급한 데 이어, 이번에도 경북의 인구 소멸 우려, 낮은 재정 자립도 등 지역이 직면한 구조적 문제를 언급했다. 그는 현실을 외면하지 않겠다는 뜻도 분명히 밝혔다.

현장에서 최 전 부총리는 “도민 여러분이 느끼는 답답함을 누구보다 잘 알고 있다”며, “새해에는 가슴속 답답함이 시원하게 풀릴 기분 좋은 소식들이 가득하기를 진심으로 기원한다”고 말했다. 이어 “경북의 엔진이 다시 힘차게 돌아가려면 무엇보다 현장 목소리가 정책에 반영되는 혁신이 중요하다”고 강조했다. 또한 “2026년 한 해 동안 지역민과 늘 함께하며 힘을 보태겠다”는 의지도 밝혔다.
