이철우 경상북도지사가 1일 포항을 방문한 문성혁 해양수산장관에게 포항해수청에서 추진하고 있는 포항~울릉항로 대형카페리여객선 공모 사업자 선정 심사를 빠른 시일내에 마무리해 줄 것을 촉구했다.

경상북도는 포항지방해양수산청(이하 포항해수청)에서 지난 1월부터 추진하고 있는 포항~울릉항로 대형카페리여객선 공모사업 사업자 선정의 조속한 심사 촉구를 위해 국회, 해양수산부를 방문하는 등 전 행정력을 집중하고 있다.

포항해수청에서 추진하는 공모사업은 지난‘20년 2월 포항~울릉항로에 운항중이던 2,000톤급 카페리 여객선 썬플라워호가 선령만료로 운항중단 된 이후 대형여객선 부재로 어려움을 겪고 있는 울릉주민의 해상이동권 보장 및 관광객 편의 제공을 위해 총톤수 8천톤 이상, 전장 190m미만의 대형 카페리여객선 공모 사업자를 지난 1월말에 선정하여 1년 이내 항로에 투입할 계획이었다.

공모 신청한 2개 선사 중 A선사의 신청서류를 포항해수청에서 선박 미확보의 사유로 반려 하면서 집행정지가처분신청 및 반려처분 취소 소송이 진행되면서 선사와 법적다툼으로 인해 4월 현재까지 공모사업자 선정 심사가 미루어지고 있는 것으로 알려지고 있다.

울릉지역 주민 B씨는 지난 3월 3일 법원의 가처분 인용 판결에도 불구하고, 신청자격 유무에 대한 법원의 행정소송 1심 판결을 지켜본 후 사업자를 선정하겠다는 포항해수청의 입장에 대하여 울릉주민들의 고통을 해소하기 위한 적극행정을 추진해 줄 것을 강력히 요구 했다.
