이후 2년 뒤인 2018년 해당 지역이 대구연호공공택지지구로 지정되었고 김 청장의 아내는 지난해 말 한국토지주택공사(LH)로부터 3억 9000여 만원을 받고 소유권을 넘기면서 9000여 만원의 시세차익을 본 것으로 알려진다.
이런 사실 가운데 김대권 구청장은 “당시 정치입문 계획이 없었고 퇴직 이후 농사를 지으려고 땅을 산 것”이라고 해명하면서 “연호동 땅을 사기 전 2년동안 대구농업마이스터고에서 직접 농사를 지었고 1년간 연호동 텃밭에서도 상추, 고추, 토마토 등을 키웠다”고 입장을 밝혔다.
그러면서도 “연호지구에 땅이 있다는 사실만으로도 죄송스럽고 구민께 책임을 느낀다”며 “자진해서 경찰에 수사를 의뢰하겠다”고 덧붙여 말했다.
