【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대한무역투자진흥공사(이하 코트라)가 해외 투자 정보를 소개하는 웹사이트에서 파오차이(泡菜)를 ‘김치와 유사한 음식’이라고 표현한 것이 확인되어 비판이 이어지고 있다.

국회 산업통상자원중소벤처기업위원회 이인선 의원(대구 수성구을)에 따르면 지난 2019년 4월 코트라의 ‘해외시장뉴스’ 홈페이지에 ‘中 쓰촨성 주요 도시 산업 분석’이라는 제목으로 쓰촨성 메이산시의 파오차이 산업을 소개한 글이 게시되었다.

청두무역관이 작성한 해당 게시글에는 파오차이에 대해 ‘무, 오이, 동두(껍질콩), 양배추, 고추, 배추 등 섬유소가 많은 채소류를 염장한 중국의 절임식품’이라며 ‘한국 김치와 유사함’이라는 표현이 사용되었고 3년간 수정되지 않은 채 방치되었다.

파오차이와 한국 김치가 유사하다는 표현은 중국이 김치를 자국의 고유 음식이라고 주장할 때 사용하는 것으로 최근 한국 전통문화에 대한 중국의 문화공정이 날로 심해지는 가운데 이와 같은 코트라의 표현은 논란을 불러일으키기에 충분한 것으로 보인다.

김치와 중국의 파오차이는 만드는 방법, 발효의 원리 및 먹는 방법 등이 전혀 다른 식품이며, 국제표준화기구도 파오차이의 식품규격이 김치에 적용되지 않는다고 명시하고 있다.

이에 대해 이인선 의원은 “농림축산식품부와 과학기술정보통신부 산하 정부출연연구기관인 세계김치연구소 등 정부기관에서 김치의 과학성, 독창성 연구를 통해 김치 종주국으로서의 위상강화에 힘쓰고 있는데, 코트라는 정반대의 행보를 보이고 있다.”고 꼬집었다.

그러면서 “김치는 한민족의 과학성과 독창성이 집약된 우리의 전통음식이며, 파오차이와는 전혀 관련이 없다”며 “잘못된 사실을 홈페이지에 게시한 것도 모자라 3년간 방치한 코트라는 대체 어느 나라 공공기관인가”라며 강하게 질타했다.
