그러자 국민의힘 대구시당은 14일 진보당 대구시당을 무고 혐의로 고소하며 맞불을 놨다. 이들은 “진보당 대구시당의 고발은 실체적 진실에 근거하지 않은 정치적 공세에 불과하다”며 “특정세력의 정치적 이익을 위해 국민의힘 소속 국회의원들의 명예를 심각히 훼손하려는 의도”라고 비판했다.

이에 대해 진보당은 “소속 의원들의 명예를 훼손하고 지역사회 화합과 발전을 저해한다니, 그 오만함에 아연실색하지 않을 수 없다”며 “대통령을 배출한 집권여당이라면 불량상품을 넘어 독극물을 내다 판 결과로 빚어진 작금의 상황을 반성부터 할 일”이라는 입장을 밝혔다.
