대구한의대학교는 최근 USJ를 방문해 한의학을 중심으로 한 고령화 대응 헬스케어 협력과 전통의학·헬스케어 융합 산업의 글로벌 확장 전략을 논의했다. 이번 협의는 단순한 교육·연구 교류를 넘어 공동 비즈니스 모델 구축과 글로벌 시장 진출을 포함한 실질적인 협력 방안 마련에 초점을 맞췄다.

양 기관은 회의를 통해 ▲한의학 기반 고령친화 헬스케어 공동 연구 ▲식품·화장품 등 융합 산업 연계 사업화 ▲학생 교류 및 복수학위제(Double Degree) 도입 ▲포르투갈어권 국가(CPLP) 네트워크를 활용한 유럽 및 글로벌 시장 진출 전략 등에 대해 폭넓게 의견을 교환했다.

이번 방문에는 변창훈 총장을 비롯해 송지청 국제교류처장 등 대구한의대학교 주요 관계자가 참석했으며, USJ 측에서는 알레한드로 살세도(Alejandro Salcedo) 행정부총장 겸 총장 대행, 장서광(Zhang Shuguang) 대외협력·기관발전 부총장, 채지명(Zhiming Cai) 기관발전처장, 파울라 모타(Paula Mota) 국제교류처장 등이 자리했다.

변창훈 총장은 “마카오는 아시아와 유럽을 연결하는 전략적 거점이자 포르투갈어권 국가로 확장할 수 있는 관문”이라며 “USJ와의 협력은 K-MEDI 기반 글로벌 헬스케어 모델을 실질적으로 구현하는 중요한 출발점이 될 것”이라고 강조했다.

USJ 측은 스마트 노인 헬스케어 연구, 지역사회 건강 프로젝트, 평생학습, 세포 영양 및 장수 연구 등 고령화 대응 분야에서의 연구 성과를 소개하며, 대구한의대학교와의 공동 연구와 산업 연계 협력 가능성에 큰 관심을 나타냈다.

특히 양 기관은 마카오를 거점으로 한 전통의학 산업 확장과 노령 인구 대상 헬스케어·AI 기술 융합, ‘스마트 에이지드 케어(Smart Aged Care)’를 핵심으로 한 다자 협력 모델 구축 필요성에 공감대를 형성했다.

대구한의대학교와 USJ는 향후 양해각서(MOU) 체결과 단계별 협력 로드맵 수립을 통해 글로벌 캠퍼스 구축과 공동 연구, 교육 프로그램 운영 등 실질적인 협력을 본격 추진해 나갈 계획이다.

Daegu Haany University and Saint Joseph University in Macau Expand Global Industry-Academia-Education Cooperation Based on K-MEDI

Daegu Haany University (President Byun Chang-hoon), a global university, has joined forces with the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in Macau to expand global industry-academic-education cooperation based on K-MEDI.

Daegu Haany University recently visited USJ and discussed collaboration on aging healthcare, focusing on Korean medicine, and strategies for global expansion of the traditional medicine-healthcare convergence industry. The discussion went beyond simple educational and research exchanges and focused on developing practical cooperation plans, including establishing joint business models and entering global markets.

During the meeting, the two institutions exchanged broad opinions on topics such as: joint research on Korean medicine-based age-friendly healthcare; commercialization of convergence industries such as food and cosmetics; student exchange and the introduction of a double degree program; and strategies for entering the European and global markets by leveraging the Portuguese-speaking countries (CPLP) network.

The visit was attended by President Byun Chang-hoon, Director of International Affairs Song Ji-cheong, and other key officials from Daegu Haany University. USJ representatives were joined by Vice President for Administration and Acting President Alejandro Salcedo, Vice President for External Affairs and Institutional Development Zhang Shuguang, Director of Institutional Development Zhiming Cai, and Director of International Affairs Paula Mota.

President Byun Chang-hoon emphasized, "Macau is a strategic hub connecting Asia and Europe and a gateway for expansion into Portuguese-speaking countries. Our collaboration with USJ will serve as a crucial starting point for the practical implementation of the K-MEDI-based global healthcare model."

USJ presented its research achievements in areas such as smart elderly healthcare research, community health projects, lifelong learning, and cellular nutrition and longevity research, expressing keen interest in the potential for joint research and industry collaboration with Daegu Haany University.

In particular, the two institutions shared a common understanding of the need to expand the traditional medicine industry based in Macau, integrate healthcare and AI technologies for the elderly, and establish a multilateral cooperation model centered on "Smart Aged Care."

Daegu Haany University and USJ plan to actively pursue practical cooperation, including the establishment of a global campus, joint research, and the operation of educational programs, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and the establishment of a phased cooperation roadmap.
