【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=반려동물 산업이 새로운 미래 성장 동력으로 주목받는 가운데, 대구한의대학교와 경북대학교가 미래 축산과 펫산업을 연계한 융합형 인재 양성에 나섰다.

경북대학교 미래동물자원연구원(원장 김은중)과 산지생태축산 6차산업 전문인재양성 교육연구단(단장 김명옥)은 지난 1월 27일 대구한의대학교 반려동물산업학과와 각각 업무협약(MOU)을 체결하고, 교육·연구·산학협력 전반에 걸친 협력 체계를 구축하기로 했다고 밝혔다.

이번 협약을 통해 양 기관은 반려동물 산업을 기존 축산·식품·바이오 기술과 결합한 미래 성장 산업으로 확장하기 위해 융합 교육과 공동 연구, 산학협력, 취·창업 연계 프로그램 등을 단계적으로 추진할 계획이다.

협약 체결과 함께 경북대학교 미래동물자원연구원이 주관한 학술 심포지엄도 개최됐다. 이날 심포지엄에서 대구한의대학교 반려동물산업학과 송광영 학과장은 연사로 참여해 ‘낙농유제품을 활용한 펫푸드 개발 가능성’을 주제로 특강을 진행했다.

송 학과장은 유청단백질, 카제인, 발효유 성분 등 낙농유제품이 지닌 영양적·기능적 가치를 소개하며, 반려동물 고령화와 식품 알레르기 문제에 대응할 수 있는 저유당·무유당 기능성 펫푸드 개발 가능성을 제시해 참석자들의 큰 관심을 끌었다.

김은중 경북대학교 미래동물자원연구원장은 “이번 협약과 학술 교류는 미래 축산과 반려동물 산업을 연결하는 새로운 교육·연구 모델을 제시하는 계기”라며 “지역 기반 산업과 연계한 실천적 협력을 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

송광영 대구한의대학교 반려동물산업학과장은 “이번 협력은 학생들의 진로와 취업 역량을 높이는 동시에, 반려동물 산업의 전문성과 지속가능성을 강화하는 중요한 기반이 될 것”이라고 밝혔다.

한편, 양 대학은 이번 협력을 통해 지역 축산·식품 산업과 반려동물 산업을 연계하는 교육·연구 허브로 기능하며, 지역 산업 경쟁력 강화에도 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

With the companion animal industry gaining attention as a new growth engine, Daegu Haany University and Kyungpook National University have embarked on a collaborative effort to cultivate talent linking the future livestock and pet industries.

Kyungpook National University's Future Animal Resources Research Institute (Director Kim Eun-joong) and the Mountain Ecological Livestock 6th Industry Professional Training Education and Research Group (Director Kim Myeong-ok) announced on January 27th that they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Daegu Haany University's Department of Companion Animal Industry, establishing a comprehensive collaborative system encompassing education, research, and industry-academia cooperation.

Through this agreement, the two institutions plan to gradually promote integrated education, joint research, industry-academia cooperation, and job creation/startup programs to expand the companion animal industry into a future growth industry that combines existing livestock, food, and biotechnology.

In conjunction with the signing of the agreement, an academic symposium was held by the Future Animal Resources Research Institute of Kyungpook National University. At the symposium, Professor Song Kwang-young of the Department of Companion Animal Industry at Daegu Haany University gave a special lecture on "The Possibility of Developing Pet Food Using Dairy Products."

Professor Song introduced the nutritional and functional value of dairy products, including whey protein, casein, and fermented milk components. He also presented the potential for developing low-lactose and lactose-free functional pet foods to address the aging population of companion animals and food allergies, captivating the audience.

Director Kim Eun-joong of the Future Animal Resources Research Institute of Kyungpook National University stated, "This agreement and academic exchange provide an opportunity to present a new education and research model that connects the future livestock and companion animal industries. We will continue to expand practical collaborations with regional industries."

Song Gwang-yeong, head of the Department of Companion Animal Industry at Daegu Haany University, stated, "This collaboration will serve as a crucial foundation for enhancing students' career and employment capabilities, while also strengthening the expertise and sustainability of the companion animal industry."

Meanwhile, the two universities anticipate that this collaboration will serve as an education and research hub linking the local livestock and food industries with the companion animal industry, contributing to strengthening the competitiveness of the local industry.
