【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=글로컬대학 대구한의대학교 치유산림학과 권기찬 학과장과 글로벌사업 박경찬 교수가 최근 서울 스텐포드호텔에서 열린 ‘동남아시아 메콩강 협력 및 기후위기 대응 국제 리더십 포럼(메콩리더십 프로그램)’에 베트남 외교부의 공식 초청을 받아 오프닝 강연과 주제 발표를 진행했다.

이번 포럼은 베트남 외교부와 한국수자원공사를 비롯해 캄보디아, 베트남, 라오스, 미얀마 등 메콩강 유역 국가 정부 관계자와 국제 협력 기관이 참석한 가운데, 기후위기 대응과 지속가능한 협력 산업 모델을 모색하기 위해 마련됐다.

대구한의대학교 교수진의 초청은 대학이 추진 중인 ‘K-메디실크로드’ 사업이 지닌 혁신성과 정책적 확장 가능성이 메콩강 유역 국가에도 적용할 수 있다는 국제적 평가를 받은 데 따른 것이다.

권기찬 학과장은 기조 강연에서 기후위기로 변화하고 있는 메콩강 유역의 산림·농업 환경에 대응하기 위해 단순한 1차 산업 협력을 넘어, 지역 생태 자원을 기반으로 한 한의약 중심의 기능성 식품·의약품·화장품 소재 개발로 협력 범위를 확대해야 한다고 강조했다. 이는 산림과 농업 자원의 고부가가치화와 기술 고도화, 지속가능한 산업 생태계 구축을 동시에 달성할 수 있는 전략적 접근이라는 설명이다.

아울러 물 클러스터 산업과 지역 하천·수자원을 연계한 산업 확장을 통해 향후 글로벌 공적개발원조(ODA) 사업으로 단계적 확대를 추진하고, 이 과정에서 대구한의대학교가 핵심적 역할을 수행할 수 있도록 준비하고 있다고 밝혔다.

이어 박경찬 교수는 베트남 지역 대학과 지방정부와 협력해 운영 중인 대구한의대학교의 교육·산학·지역연계 모델을 소개하며, 현지 맞춤형 교육과 인재 양성, 산업 연계를 결합한 협력 구조가 메콩강 유역 국가 전반으로 확산 가능한 실질적 모델임을 제시했다.

대구한의대학교는 이번 메콩리더십 프로그램을 계기로 K-메디실크로드와 K-글로컬 협력 산업 모델을 동남아시아로 확장하기 위한 국제적 공감대와 정책적 신뢰를 확보했으며, 산림·농업을 넘어 도시개발과 물 산업, 정부 ODA 사업까지 연계하는 다층적 글로벌 협력의 중심 대학으로서의 위상을 다시 한번 확인했다.

한편, 메콩리더십 프로그램은 메콩강 유역 국가들이 공동으로 직면한 기후위기 대응을 위해 국가 기관과 국제 협력 역량을 갖춘 대학이 함께 참여하는 전략적 협력 플랫폼으로, 향후 동남아시아 지속가능 발전을 이끄는 핵심 모델로 발전할 것으로 기대된다.

Daegu Haany University's Department of Forestry, Kwon Ki-chan, and Professor Park Kyung-chan, Global Business, were officially invited by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the "International Leadership Forum on Southeast Asia's Mekong River Cooperation and Climate Crisis Response (Mekong Leadership Program)" held at the Stanford Hotel in Seoul. They delivered opening remarks and keynote speeches.

The forum, attended by officials from the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Korea Water Resources Corporation, and government officials and international cooperation organizations from Mekong River Basin countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar, was organized to explore climate crisis response and sustainable cooperative industrial models.

The invitation of Daegu Haany University's faculty stems from the university's international recognition of the university's "K-Medi Silk Road" project, which is recognized for its innovativeness and policy scalability, and its applicability to Mekong River Basin countries.

In his keynote speech, Professor Kwon Ki-chan emphasized the need to expand cooperation beyond simple primary industry collaboration to include the development of functional food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic materials, focusing on traditional Korean medicine (TCM), based on local ecological resources, to address the changing forest and agricultural environment in the Mekong River Basin due to climate change. He explained that this is a strategic approach that can simultaneously achieve high added value for forest and agricultural resources, technological advancement, and the establishment of a sustainable industrial ecosystem.

He also announced that Daegu Haany University is preparing to play a key role in this process by expanding the water cluster industry and industries linked to local rivers and water resources, aiming for a gradual expansion into global Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects.

Professor Park Kyung-chan then introduced Daegu Haany University's education, academia, and regional collaboration model, operating in collaboration with local universities and local governments in Vietnam. He argued that this collaborative structure, combining locally tailored education, talent development, and industry collaboration, is a practical model that can be expanded across the Mekong River Basin.

Through this Mekong Leadership Program, Daegu Haany University has secured international consensus and policy trust to expand the K-Medical Silk Road and K-Glocal cooperative industrial models to Southeast Asia. Furthermore, the university has reaffirmed its position as a central university for multi-layered global cooperation, extending beyond forestry and agriculture to urban development, the water industry, and even government ODA projects.

Meanwhile, the Mekong Leadership Program is a strategic collaboration platform where government agencies and universities with international cooperation capabilities collaborate to address the climate crisis shared by Mekong River basin countries. It is expected to develop into a key model for sustainable development in Southeast Asia.
