포항시는 한동대학교 캠퍼스 내 건축물의 지진 안전성을 확보하기 위한 ‘지진안전 시설물 인증 지원사업’을 추진한다고 12일 밝혔다.

이번 사업은 행정안전부가 시행하는 ‘지진안전 시설물 인증 지원사업’의 일환으로, 지난해 대상 기관으로 선정된 한동대학교를 대상으로 진행된다.

시는 올해 3월부터 캠퍼스 내 건축물 21개 동을 대상으로 내진성능평가를 실시하고, 총사업비 4억7천만 원을 투입해 건축물 전반의 내진 안전성을 점검할 계획이다. 평가 결과를 토대로 지진안전 시설물 인증 절차도 함께 추진해 학생들에게 보다 안전한 교육 환경을 제공할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

지진안전 시설물 인증 지원사업은 국민 안전 확보를 위해 행정안전부가 2019년부터 시행하고 있는 제도다. 포항시는 이를 통해 민간 건축물의 내진성능 확보를 유도하고 지진으로부터 시민의 생명과 재산을 보호하는 한편 건축물 안전성에 대한 신뢰도를 높인다는 방침이다.

내진성능평가에서 안전성이 확인된 건축물은 ‘지진안전 시설물’로 인증되며, 대상은 학교와 병원, 역사, 다중이용시설 등 시민들이 일상적으로 이용하는 건축물을 포함해 인증을 희망하는 모든 건축물이다.

지원 내용은 건축물 내진 안전성을 확인하기 위한 내진성능평가 비용 최대 3천만 원과 지진안전 시설물 인증에 필요한 비용 최대 1천만 원이다. 인증 기준에 미달하더라도 내진성능평가 비용은 별도로 지원된다.

포항시는 2020년부터 해당 사업을 추진해 지금까지 약 7억2천만 원을 투입해 30개 건축물의 내진성능평가 비용을 지원했다. 이 가운데 15개 건축물이 내진성능을 확보해 ‘지진안전 시설물 인증명판’을 부착했다.

김복수 포항시 도시안전주택국장은 “건축물의 내진성능 확보는 시민의 생명과 직결되는 중요한 문제”라며 “지진안전 시설물 인증 지원사업을 지속적으로 활성화해 민간 건축물의 내진 안전성을 강화하고 시민의 생명과 재산 보호에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

Pohang City has been implementing this project since 2020, investing approximately 720 million won to date to support the seismic performance assessments of 30 buildings. Of these, 15 buildings have achieved seismic performance and received "earthquake-safe facility certification plaques."
