포항시는 16일 안전로봇실증센터에서 ‘경북 로봇산업 발전 산·연·관 공동선포식’을 개최했다. 이번 행사는 지자체와 지역 로봇기업, 한국로봇융합연구원 등이 협력해 경북권 로봇산업 생태계를 활성화하고 경북을 로봇산업 핵심 거점으로 육성하기 위한 의지를 공식화하기 위해 마련됐다.

이날 행사에는 박시균 경북도 메타AI과학국장, 이상엽 포항시 일자리경제국장, 남병국 구미시 첨단산업국장, 강기원 한국로봇융합연구원장과 김현진 퓨전이엔씨 대표, 박종훈 뉴로메카 대표 등 포항·구미 지역 로봇기업 관계자들이 참석해 산업 발전 방안을 논의했다.

발표 세션에서 한국로봇융합연구원은 ‘지역 로봇기업 발전 전략’을 통해 핵심 부품 국산화와 현장 실증 강화를 중심으로 한 로드맵을 제시하며 경북권 로봇산업의 자생력 확보 방안을 제시했다.

특히 이날 행사에서는 지역 로봇산업의 구심점 역할을 할 ‘포항AI로봇기업협의회’가 공식 출범했다. 협의회는 기술 교류와 공동 연구개발(R&D)을 통해 기술 혁신을 주도하고, 민간 중심 네트워크를 구축해 포항이 글로벌 로봇 시장에서 경쟁력을 갖출 수 있도록 지원할 예정이다.

참여 기관들은 ‘경북 로봇산업 발전 공동선언문’을 통해 ▲로봇기업 성장 지원 협력체계 강화 ▲휴머노이드·AI·첨단제조 중심 산업 생태계 조성 ▲글로벌 경쟁력 강화 ▲로봇 분야 국가 첨단전략산업 특화단지 조성 등을 위해 공동 노력하기로 했다.

이상엽 포항시 일자리경제국장은 “이번 선포식은 경북 로봇산업이 휴머노이드와 AI를 중심으로 도약하는 의미 있는 출발점”이라며 “포항은 세계적인 연구 역량과 철강·이차전지 등 로봇 실증에 최적화된 산업 현장을 보유한 도시”라고 강조했다.

이어 “출범한 포항AI로봇기업협의회가 지역 성장의 중심축이 되길 기대한다”며 “산·연·관 협력을 기반으로 포항을 대한민국 로봇산업의 메카이자 고부가가치 자율제조 산업도시로 도약시키겠다”고 밝혔다.

포항시는 이번 선포식을 계기로 유관 기관과의 협력을 강화하고, 철강 산업으로 축적한 제조 역량을 첨단 로봇산업으로 확장해 ‘K-로봇 산업의 메카’로 육성하는 데 행정력을 집중할 방침이다.

Pohang City, together with Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gumi City, has set out to establish a super-regional cooperation framework to foster the robot industry as a key strategic industry of the future by collaborating with local robot companies and research institutions.

On the 16th, Pohang City held the ‘Joint Proclamation Ceremony of Industry, Research, and Government for the Development of the Gyeongbuk Robot Industry’ at the Safety Robot Demonstration Center. This event was organized to formalize the commitment of local governments, regional robot companies, and the Korea Institute of Robot Convergence to revitalize the robot industry ecosystem in the Gyeongbuk region and to cultivate Gyeongbuk as a core hub for the robot industry. At the event, officials from robot companies in the Pohang and Gumi regions attended to discuss strategies for industrial development. Attendees included Park Si-gyun, Director General of the Meta AI Science Bureau of Gyeongsangbuk-do; Lee Sang-yeop, Director General of the Jobs and Economy Bureau of Pohang City; Nam Byeong-guk, Director General of the Advanced Industry Bureau of Gumi City; Kang Ki-won, President of the Korea Institute of Robotics and Convergence; Kim Hyun-jin, CEO of Fusion ENC; and Park Jong-hoon, CEO of Neuromeca.

During the presentation session, the Korea Institute of Robotics and Convergence presented a roadmap centered on the localization of core components and strengthened field demonstrations through its "Regional Robot Enterprise Development Strategy," outlining measures to secure self-sufficiency for the robot industry in the Gyeongsangbuk-do region.

Notably, the "Pohang AI Robot Enterprise Council," set to serve as the central hub for the regional robot industry, was officially launched at the event. The council plans to lead technological innovation through technology exchange and joint R&D, and to support Pohang in gaining competitiveness in the global robot market by establishing a private-sector-led network. Through the ‘Joint Declaration on the Development of the Gyeongbuk Robot Industry,’ participating organizations agreed to make joint efforts to strengthen the cooperative framework for supporting the growth of robot companies, create an industrial ecosystem centered on humanoid robots, AI, and advanced manufacturing, enhance global competitiveness, and establish a specialized industrial complex for national advanced strategic industries in the robotics sector.

Lee Sang-yeop, Director of the Jobs and Economy Bureau of Pohang City, emphasized, “This proclamation ceremony marks a meaningful starting point for the Gyeongbuk robot industry to take a leap forward centered on humanoid robots and AI,” adding, “Pohang is a city possessing world-class research capabilities and industrial sites optimized for robot demonstration, such as steel and secondary batteries.”

He continued, “I hope the newly launched Pohang AI Robot Enterprise Council will become the central axis of regional growth,” and stated, “Based on cooperation among industry, research, and government, we will elevate Pohang into the mecca of Korea’s robot industry and a city of high-value-added autonomous manufacturing.” With this proclamation ceremony as an opportunity, Pohang City plans to strengthen cooperation with related organizations and focus its administrative efforts on expanding the manufacturing capabilities accumulated through the steel industry into the advanced robot industry to foster it into the ‘mecca of the K-robot industry.’
