포항시는 24일 시청 중회의실에서 ‘포항형 유니크 베뉴(Unique Venue) 현판 수여식’을 열고 지역 내 유니크 베뉴를 공식 지정했다고 밝혔다. 이날 행사에는 장상길 포항시장 권한대행을 비롯해 마이스산업과 등 관련 부서와 유관기관 관계자 20여 명이 참석했다.

유니크 베뉴는 회의 중심의 행사에서 벗어나 만찬, 환영 행사, 네트워킹 등 다양한 연회 프로그램을 운영할 수 있는 차별화된 공간을 의미한다.

이번에 선정된 포항형 유니크 베뉴는 ‘포항형 유니크베뉴(PUV) 기본계획 수립 용역’ 결과를 토대로 ▲스페이스워크(환호공원) ▲연오랑세오녀 테마공원(귀비고) ▲사방기념공원 등 3곳이다.

이들 장소는 포항의 문화·자연·산업 자원을 복합적으로 반영한 공간으로, 바다와 도시가 어우러진 경관과 행사 운영 여건 측면에서 높은 평가를 받아 유니크 베뉴로서의 적합성을 인정받았다.

포항시는 이번 지정을 계기로 유니크 베뉴에 대한 홍보를 강화하는 한편, 소규모 회의를 중심으로 시범 운영을 추진해 활용 경험을 축적할 계획이다. 아울러 향후 준공 예정인 포항국제전시컨벤션센터(POEX)와 연계해 MICE 행사 지원이 가능한 복합 공간으로 단계적으로 고도화한다는 방침이다.

장상길 포항시장 권한대행은 “이번 유니크 베뉴 선정은 포항형 MICE 사업의 본격적인 출발점”이라며 “국제회의 유치 경쟁력을 높이고 참가자들에게 포항만의 차별화된 경험을 제공하겠다”고 말했다.

Pohang City has set out in earnest to strengthen the competitiveness of its MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry by discovering differentiated event spaces that highlight local characteristics.

Pohang City announced on the 24th that it held a ‘Pohang-style Unique Venue Plaque Award Ceremony’ at the City Hall conference room and officially designated unique venues within the region. The event was attended by approximately 20 people, including Acting Mayor Jang Sang-gil, officials from relevant departments such as the MICE Industry Division, and representatives from related organizations.

A unique venue refers to a differentiated space capable of hosting various banquet programs, such as dinners, welcome events, and networking, moving beyond events centered solely on meetings.

Based on the results of the ‘Pohang-style Unique Venue (PUV) Master Plan Establishment Service,’ the three selected Pohang-style unique venues are ▲Space Walk (Hwanho Park) ▲Yeonorang Seonyeo Theme Park (Gwigigo) ▲Sabang Memorial Park. These venues are spaces that comprehensively reflect Pohang's cultural, natural, and industrial resources. They were recognized for their suitability as "Unique Venues," receiving high marks for their landscapes that blend the sea and the city, as well as for their operational conditions.

Taking this designation as an opportunity, Pohang City plans to strengthen promotion of the Unique Venues and accumulate experience in their utilization by conducting pilot operations centered on small-scale meetings. Furthermore, the city intends to gradually upgrade these venues into complex spaces capable of supporting MICE events by linking them with the Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center (POEX), which is scheduled for completion in the future.

Jang Sang-gil, Acting Mayor of Pohang, stated, "The selection of these Unique Venues marks the official starting point for Pohang-style MICE business," adding, "We will enhance our competitiveness in attracting international conferences and provide participants with a differentiated experience unique to Pohang."
