【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=한국수력원자력(사장 김회천, 이하 한수원)이 미래 에너지 산업의 핵심 기술 선점을 위한 행보를 본격화했다.

한수원은 31일 중앙연구원에서 한국과학기술원, 조선대학교 등 28개 주관·참여기관과 ‘제8기 사외공모과제’ 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이번 공모에는 총 160여 개 과제가 접수됐으며, 엄격한 심사를 거쳐 최종 17개 과제가 선정됐다. 한수원은 총 100억 원 규모의 예산을 투입해 오는 2028년 3월 말까지 약 2년간 연구를 지원할 계획이다. 이를 통해 에너지 기술 경쟁력을 강화하고, 원전 산업 분야에서 글로벌 경쟁 우위를 확보한다는 전략이다.

특히 한수원은 이번 협약을 계기로 기존 원자력 중심에서 벗어나 무탄소 전원과 차세대 에너지 기술, 자유주제 연구 등으로 지원 범위를 확대한다. 이는 급변하는 글로벌 에너지 패러다임에 대응해 미래 선도 기술을 선제적으로 확보하려는 의지로 풀이된다.

한수원은 지난 2017년부터 외부 기관과의 협력을 통해 기술 혁신을 지속해 왔다. 지난해까지 약 700억 원의 연구비를 투입해 산업재산권 출원 130여 건, 논문 게재 600여 건, 연구보고서 250여 건 등의 성과를 창출했으며, 총 115개 기관이 연구에 참여했다.

신호철 한수원 중앙연구원장은 “산·학·연 간 긴밀한 협력은 글로벌 에너지 시장을 선도할 원천기술 확보의 핵심”이라며 “연구자들이 역량을 최대한 발휘할 수 있는 환경을 조성해 차세대 에너지 기술 개발을 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

KHNP Signs Agreement for ‘8th External Open Call Project’… Full-scale Securing of Future Energy Technologies

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (President Kim Hoe-cheon, hereinafter KHNP) has begun full-scale efforts to secure core technologies for the future energy industry.

KHNP announced on the 31st that it signed an agreement for the ‘8th External Open Call Project’ with 28 lead and participating institutions, including the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Chosun University, at its Central Research Institute.

A total of approximately 160 projects were submitted for this call, and 17 final projects were selected following a rigorous screening process. KHNP plans to invest a total budget of 10 billion won to support research for approximately two years, until the end of March 2028. The strategy is to strengthen energy technology competitiveness and secure a global competitive advantage in the nuclear power industry through this initiative.

In particular, taking this agreement as an opportunity, KHNP is expanding the scope of its support beyond its existing focus on nuclear power to include carbon-free power sources, next-generation energy technologies, and research on open topics. This is interpreted as a determination to proactively secure future-leading technologies in response to the rapidly changing global energy paradigm.

KHNP has been pursuing technological innovation through cooperation with external organizations since 2017. By last year, the company had invested approximately 70 billion won in research funds, generating achievements such as over 130 industrial property rights applications, over 600 published papers, and over 250 research reports, with a total of 115 institutions participating in the research.

Shin Ho-cheol, President of KHNP’s Central Research Institute, stated, “Close cooperation among industry, academia, and research institutes is key to securing source technologies that will lead the global energy market,” adding, “We will actively support the development of next-generation energy technologies by creating an environment where researchers can fully demonstrate their capabilities.”
