【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항해양경찰서(서장 김지한)는 11일, 해양재난구조대법 시행에 따른 ‘해양재난구조대 위촉식 및 현판 제막식’을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이날 행사에는 포항해양경찰서장과 각 과장, 해양재난구조대원 등 20여 명이 참석했으며, 해양사고 대응 역량 강화를 위한 협력 방안을 모색하는 자리가 마련됐다.

김지한 포항해경서장은 인사말을 통해 "해양재난구조대는 해양경찰과 함께 바다에서 국민의 생명과 안전을 지키는 중요한 역할을 맡고 있다"며 "앞으로도 신속한 구조 활동과 해양 안전 확보를 위해 최선을 다해달라"고 당부했다.

이어 김태곤 해양재난구조대장은 "우리 구조대원들은 국민의 생명을 최우선으로 생각하며 구조 활동에 임하고 있다. 지난해에도 수많은 구조 현장에서 최선을 다했으며, 앞으로도 해양경찰과 긴밀히 협력해 더욱 신속하고 효과적인 구조 활동을 펼치겠다"고 말했다.

그동안 ‘수상에서의 수색·구조 등에 관한 법률’(수상구조법)에서는 민간해양구조대원의 정의와 처우만 규정하고 있어 체계적인 관리에 한계가 있었으나, 이번 해양재난구조대법 시행으로 민간해양구조대원들이 자긍심을 가질 수 있게 해양재난구조대원으로 명칭이 변경되고, 조직 설치와 운영에 대한 법적 근거가 마련됐다. 이를 통해 보다 체계적인 운영과 지원이 가능해졌다.

최근 5년간 해양사고 발생 시 민간구조대원들의 구조율은 20%에 달하며, 2024년 포항 관할 해역에서 발생한 53건의 해양사고에서 234명이 적극적인 구조 활동을 펼치며 해양 안전을 위해 헌신했다.

포항해양경찰서는 해양경찰의 수난구호 및 조난사고 대응 업무를 체계적으로 지원하고, 해양재난구조대와 긴밀히 협력하여 해양사고 예방 및 대응 역량을 강화할 예정이다. 또한, 안전한 바다를 만들기 위한 다양한 지원과 정책을 지속적으로 추진할 계획이다.

In the past five years, the rescue rate of civilian rescue workers reached 20% in marine accidents, and in 2024, 234 people actively engaged in rescue activities and devoted themselves to marine safety in 53 marine accidents that occurred in the waters under Pohang's jurisdiction.

Pohang Marine Police Department plans to systematically support the marine police’s disaster relief and disaster accident response work and strengthen marine accident prevention and response capabilities through close cooperation with the marine disaster rescue team.
