【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항해양경찰서는 동해안의 핵심 어족자원인 대게 보호를 위해 지난해 12월 1일부터 올해 3월 2일까지 대게류 불법 포획·유통에 대한 특별단속을 실시한 결과, 현재까지 총 5건, 7명을 검거했다고 밝혔다.

포항해경에 따르면 지난 1월 19일 오후 6시경, 어선 A호가 불법으로 대게를 포획하고 있다는 첩보를 입수하고 입항 중이던 해당 선박을 정밀 검문·검색한 결과, 연중 포획이 금지된 체장 9cm 이하의 체장미달 대게 220마리를 갑판 하부 비밀 어창에 은닉해 보관 중인 사실을 적발했다. 해경은 선장과 선원들을 상대로 사건 경위와 여죄에 대해 수사를 진행하고 있다.

이와 함께 지난해 12월에는 체장미달 대게 230마리를 불법 포획한 어선 1척과, 체장미달 대게 170마리를 유통 목적으로 수족관에 보관한 수산물 도매업자 등 3명을 추가로 검거하는 등 특별단속 기간 동안 총 5건의 불법 행위를 적발했다.

이번 단속으로 불법 포획·유통을 시도한 체장미달 대게 총 1,325마리는 수산자원 회복을 위해 전량 해상 방류 조치됐다.

이근안 포항해양경찰서장은 “체장 미달의 어린 대게 포획은 자원 고갈로 이어지는 중대한 불법행위”라며 “특별단속이 종료되는 3월 2일까지 가용 인력을 총동원해 불법 포획과 유통 행위에 대해 예외 없이 엄중 처벌하겠다”고 강조했다.

한편, 수산자원관리법에 따라 암컷 대게 및 체장미달 대게를 포획·유통·보관·판매할 경우 2년 이하의 징역 또는 2천만 원 이하의 벌금에 처해진다.

Lee Geun-an, Chief of the Pohang Coast Guard, emphasized, "The capture of undersized young snow crabs is a serious illegal act that leads to resource depletion. We will mobilize all available personnel until the special crackdown concludes on March 2nd to strictly punish all illegal catches and distribution activities without exception."

Meanwhile, according to the Fisheries Resources Management Act, those who catch, distribute, store, or sell female crabs or undersized crabs are subject to imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to 20 million won.
