【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항해양경찰서는 봄철 해양 활동 증가에 따른 안전사고 예방을 위해 4월 6일부터 5월 10일까지 35일간 ‘연안위험구역 집중 안전관리기간’을 운영한다고 밝혔다.

이번 조치는 낚시객과 관광객 증가로 추락·익수 사고 위험이 높아지는 시기를 맞아, 사고 발생 우려가 큰 연안해역과 갯바위, 방파제, 해안 절벽, 해양 레저활동 밀집 구역 등을 중심으로 추진된다.

‘연안위험구역’은 해양경찰과 지자체, 해양수산청 등 관계기관이 사고 발생 가능성과 이용 빈도 등을 종합적으로 고려해 지정한 구역으로, 포항해양경찰서 관내에는 총 58개소가 설정돼 있다.

포항해양경찰서는 이번 기간 동안 ▲연안위험구역 및 출입통제구역 순찰 강화 ▲안전시설물 점검·정비 ▲구명조끼 착용 등 안전수칙 홍보 ▲유관기관 합동 점검 및 계도활동 등을 집중 실시할 계획이다. 특히 기상 악화 시에는 출입 통제를 강화하고, 지자체 재난안전문자 등을 활용해 사고 예방에 나설 방침이다.

이근안 서장은 “해양사고는 사전 예방이 무엇보다 중요하다”며 “위험구역 출입 시 구명조끼 착용과 기상 확인 등 기본적인 안전수칙을 반드시 준수해 달라”고 당부했다. 이어 “앞으로도 계절별 맞춤형 안전관리 활동을 지속적으로 추진해 국민의 생명과 안전 보호에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
