포항해양경찰서(서장 이근안)는 지난 29일 낮 12시 38분경 포항시 포스코 방파제 외측 인근 해상에서 1톤급 모터보트 A호(승선원 5명)가 추진기 고장으로 항해가 불가능하다는 신고를 ‘해로드’ 앱 SOS를 통해 접수했다고 밝혔다.

신고를 받은 해경은 즉시 포항파출소 연안구조정 등 구조세력을 현장에 급파했다. 현장에 도착한 해상팀은 A호에 등선해 선박 상태와 승선원 안전 여부를 확인했으며, 당시 승선원 전원이 구명조끼를 착용하고 있어 인명피해는 발생하지 않은 것으로 확인됐다.

해경은 2차 사고 예방을 위해 승선원 4명을 연안구조정으로 옮긴 뒤 사고 선박을 예인했다. 이후 해당 선박이 저속 자력 항해가 가능한 상태임을 확인하고 입항지를 형산강 인근으로 변경해 안전하게 계류 조치했다.

입항 후 운항자 B씨(40대, 남)의 음주 여부를 확인한 결과 이상은 없는 것으로 나타났다.

이근안 포항해양경찰서장은 “해상에서의 갑작스러운 기관 고장 등 긴급 상황에 대비해 구명조끼 착용과 함께 ‘해로드’ 앱 등 구조요청 수단을 숙지하는 것이 중요하다”며 “앞으로도 신속한 대응으로 해양 안전 확보에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

A motorboat drifting off the coast of Pohang due to a propeller failure was safely rescued thanks to the Coast Guard's swift response.
