시에 따르면 이날 보고회에는 이주호 교육부 장관과 우동기 지방시대 위원장 등 주요 인사들이 참석한 가운데, 포항시의 교육 혁신 성과가 인정받았다.
포항시의 우수사례 발표는 장상길 포항시 부시장이 ‘포에버 교육 시스템 구축’을 주제로 진행했다. ‘포에버(Pohang+Education+Battery+er)’라는 이름의 이 교육 시스템은 포항에서 이차전지 산업과 연계된 전문 교육을 받은 인재들이 취업과 정주까지 이어지도록 지원하는 프로그램이다.
교육부는 이날 보고회에서 17개 특구를 우수 운영 사례로 선정했으며, 포항시는 이차전지 산업과 연계된 학과 개편, 교육과정 도입, 산학협력 강화를 통해 지역 맞춤형 인재 양성과 정주 기반 마련에 힘쓴 점이 높은 평가를 받았다.
포항시는 이차전지 산업에 필요한 전문 인재 양성을 위해 특성화고, 대학, 기업을 유기적으로 연결하는 시스템을 구축했다. 특히, 포항 흥해공업고등학교의 학과 개편과 포항대학교, 선린대학교의 이차전지 관련 학과 운영을 통해 지역 산업과 교육의 긴밀한 연계를 이루어냈다.
또한, 포항시는 36개의 이차전지 관련 기업과 협약을 체결하고 졸업생의 취업을 적극 지원하며, 학생들이 졸업 후에도 지역 내에서 지속적으로 성장하고 정주할 수 있도록 유도하고 있다.

교육발전특구는 지역 인재 양성과 지역 정주 생태계 활성화를 위해 지방자치단체, 교육청, 대학, 지역 기업, 공공기관 등이 협력하여 지역 교육을 혁신하는 정책이다. 포항시는 지난해부터 시작된 교육발전특구 시범 사업에 포함되었으며, 이를 통해 포항형 교육혁신 생태계 구축이 더욱 활발히 이루어질 것으로 기대된다.
