이를 기념해 ‘한국 문명, 인문의 눈으로 상상하다’를 주제로 한 특집 학술심포지엄을 계명대 성서캠퍼스 동천관 국제세미나실에서 개최한다.

이번 심포지엄에는 철학·역사·사회학 등 다양한 분야의 국내 석학들이 참여해 한국 문명의 정체성과 미래를 인문학적으로 조망할 예정이다. 특히 ‘인류세(Anthropocene)’라는 새로운 시대 인식을 바탕으로 인간과 문명, 그리고 지구의 관계를 재조명하며, 인공지능과 첨단기술이 주도하는 급변의 시대 속에서 “인간은 누구이며, 문명은 어디로 가야 하는가”라는 근원적 질문을 던진다.

행사는 김기봉 경기대학교 사학과 명예교수의 ‘한국 문명의 계보학’ 기조발표를 시작으로 ▲김홍중 서울대 사회학과 교수의 ‘한국 근대성과 서바이벌리즘’ ▲이윤갑 계명대 사학과 명예교수의 ‘역사학의 관점에서 조망하는 근대문명과 인문학’ ▲신정근 성균관대 유학동양한국철학과 교수의 ‘한국의 18~19세기 사상적 기획은 완수 또는 진행 중 어디에 있는가?’ ▲홍윤기 동국대 철학과 명예교수의 ‘인류세 지구시민의 자기이해로서 K-철학 또는 안응칠 코드’ 순으로 이어진다.

이번 포럼은 인류세라는 문명사적 전환기 속에서 한국 문명의 기원과 전개, 미래적 가능성을 새롭게 구성하는 학문적 시도로 평가된다. 이재성 계명-목요철학원 원장은 “이번 심포지엄은 철학 담론을 넘어, 지구적 전환기 속에서 인간 존재를 새롭게 이해하려는 인문학적 실험”이라며 “한국의 지적 전통이 앞으로의 문명 담론에 어떻게 응답할 수 있을지를 함께 모색하는 자리”라고 밝혔다.

한편, 계명-목요철학원의 '목요철학 인문포럼'은 1980년 10월 8일 시작된 ‘목요철학 세미나’를 모태로 한 국내 최장수 인문 프로그램이다. 45년 동안 단 한 차례도 거르지 않고 이어지며 수많은 학자, 예술인, 종교인, 사회 인사들이 참여해 철학과 인문학의 가치를 지역사회와 공유해왔다. 모든 강연과 자료는 공식 홈페이지(academiaphilosophia.com)에 보존돼 한국 인문학사의 귀중한 아카이브로 평가받고 있다.

Keimyung University's "Thursday Philosophy Humanities Forum" Holds Special Academic Symposium to Mark 900th Anniversary

To commemorate this milestone, a special academic symposium titled "Imagining Korean Civilization through the Eyes of the Humanities" will be held in the Dongcheon Hall International Seminar Room on Keimyung University's Seongseo Campus.

This symposium will bring together leading Korean scholars from various fields, including philosophy, history, and sociology, to explore the identity and future of Korean civilization from a humanities perspective. Drawing on the new era of the "Anthropocene," the symposium will reexamine the relationship between humans, civilization, and the Earth. In this era of rapid change driven by artificial intelligence and advanced technology, the symposium will address the fundamental question: "Who are humans, and where should civilization go?"

The event began with a keynote speech by Professor Emeritus Kim Ki-bong of the Department of History at Kyonggi University on "Genealogy of Korean Civilization." The forum will then proceed with presentations on "Korean Modernity and Survivalism" by Professor Kim Hong-joong of the Department of Sociology at Seoul National University, "Modern Civilization and the Humanities from a Historiographic Perspective" by Professor Lee Yun-gap of the Department of History at Keimyung University, "Where is Korea's 18th-19th Century Ideological Project: Completed or In Progress?" by Professor Shin Jeong-geun of the Department of Confucianism and Oriental Korean Philosophy at Sungkyunkwan University, and "K-Philosophy or the Ahn Eung-chil Code as Self-Understanding of Global Citizens in the Anthropocene" by Professor Hong Yun-gi of the Department of Philosophy at Dongguk University.

This forum is recognized as an academic endeavor that reframes the origins, development, and future possibilities of Korean civilization within the context of the Anthropocene, a critical turning point in the history of civilization. Lee Jae-seong, director of the Keimyung-Mokyo Philosophy Institute, stated, "This symposium is a humanistic experiment that seeks to renew our understanding of human existence amidst global transitions, transcending philosophical discourse. It is a place to explore together how Korea's intellectual tradition can respond to future discourses on civilization."

Meanwhile, the Keimyung-Mokyo Philosophy Institute's "Mokyo Philosophy Humanities Forum" is Korea's longest-running humanities program, originating from the "Mokyo Philosophy Seminar" that began on October 8, 1980. For 45 years, it has continued without a single instance, drawing countless scholars, artists, religious figures, and social figures to share the values ​​of philosophy and the humanities with the local community.
