‘지역대표예술단체 지원사업’은 문화체육관광부와 지방자치단체가 함께 공연예술 분야의 지역 간 격차를 해소하고 공연예술 생태계를 활성화하기 위해 2024년부터 추진하고 있는 사업이다. 올해 공모에는 서울을 제외한 전국 102개 예술단체가 참여했으며, 이 가운데 41개 단체가 선정돼 총 145억 원 규모의 국·시비를 지원받는다. 선정 단체는 공연 제작비로 최소 2억 원 이상을 지원받게 된다.

대구시는 지난해 영남오페라단 1개 단체 선정에 이어 올해 2개 단체가 선정되며 2년 연속 지역대표예술단체를 배출했다. 특히 선정 장르가 기존 음악 분야에서 무용 분야까지 확대되며, 대구 공연예술의 경쟁력과 다양성을 다시 한번 입증했다는 평가다.

올해부터는 연차별 평가를 통해 최대 5년까지 국비 지원이 가능해져, 안정적인 공연 창작 환경 조성과 지속적인 우수 콘텐츠 개발이 기대된다.

무용 분야에 선정된 정길무용단(대표 김현태)은 2009년 창단 이후 한국무용을 기반으로 대구의 역사와 정서를 담아낸 ‘대구형 콘텐츠’를 꾸준히 선보여 왔다. 이번 사업을 통해 시인 이육사의 문학 세계를 재해석한 ‘큰 강물이 비로소 길(佶)을 열었다’와 원로 무용가들과 협업한 작품 ‘이어지다(가제)’ 등 총 3개 작품을 6회에 걸쳐 공연할 예정이다.

음악 분야 선정단체인 대구 비르투오조 챔버(대표 배은진)는 2020년 창단 이후 대구를 중심으로 활발한 활동을 이어오고 있다. 올해는 어린이 미술활동과 연계한 ‘킨더콘체르트: 마술피리’와 배리어프리 공연 ‘열린 음악회’를 통해 미래 관객 개발과 문화 소외계층을 위한 공연을 집중적으로 선보일 계획이다.

이번 사업은 지역대표예술단체와 지자체 공공공연장을 지정해 운영하는 방식으로 진행된다. 대구시는 대구문화예술회관(무용)과 대구콘서트하우스(음악)를 대표 공연장으로 지정하고, 공연 제작과 홍보·마케팅 등 전반적인 지원에 나설 방침이다.

황보란 대구광역시 문화체육관광국장은 “무용과 음악 두 장르에서 지역대표예술단체가 선정된 것은 대구 공연예술이 쌓아온 역량의 결과”라며 “대구만의 특화된 공연 콘텐츠 개발을 적극 지원해 지역 예술계 전반에 활력을 불어넣겠다”고 말했다.

Daegu City Selects Two Regional Representative Arts Groups, Proving Competitiveness in Dance and Music

Daegu Metropolitan City announced that two groups, Jeonggil Dance Company (dance) and Daegu Virtuoso Chamber (music), were selected for the "2026 Regional Representative Arts Group Support Project," hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The "Regional Representative Arts Group Support Project" is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and local governments, launched in 2024, to bridge regional disparities in the performing arts and revitalize the performing arts ecosystem. This year, 102 arts groups from across the country (excluding Seoul) participated in the competition, and 41 were selected to receive a total of 14.5 billion won in national and city funding. Selected groups will receive at least 200 million won for performance production costs.

Following the selection of Yeongnam Opera last year, Daegu City has selected two groups this year, marking the second consecutive year it has selected regional representative arts groups. In particular, the expanded selection of genres from music to dance once again demonstrates the competitiveness and diversity of Daegu's performing arts scene.

Starting this year, government funding for up to five years will be available through annual evaluations, promising to foster a stable performing arts environment and foster the continued development of high-quality content.

Jeonggil Dance Company (Director Kim Hyun-tae), selected for the dance category, has consistently presented "Daegu-style content" that captures the history and sentiments of Daegu through Korean dance since its founding in 2009. Through this project, three works will be performed over six performances, including "The Great River Has Finally Opened a Path (佶)," a reinterpretation of poet Yi Yuk-sa's literary world, and "Continued (tentative title)" in collaboration with veteran dancers.

Daegu Virtuoso Chamber (Director Bae Eun-jin), selected for the music category, has been actively engaged in activities centered in Daegu since its founding in 2020. This year, the city plans to focus on developing future audiences and presenting performances for culturally disadvantaged groups through "Kinderkonzert: The Magic Flute," a children's art activity program, and the barrier-free "Open Concert."

This project will be implemented by designating and operating representative local arts organizations and public performance venues operated by local governments. The city of Daegu has designated the Daegu Culture and Arts Center (dance) and the Daegu Concert House (music) as representative performance venues and will provide comprehensive support, including performance production, promotion, and marketing.

Hwang Bo-ran, Director of the Daegu Metropolitan City Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau, stated, "The selection of representative local arts organizations in both dance and music genres is a testament to the capabilities Daegu's performing arts scene has built. We will actively support the development of specialized performance content unique to Daegu and revitalize the local arts scene."
