【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항시는 20일 시청 중회의실에서 ‘유네스코 창의도시 네트워크(UCCN) 미식 분야 가입 준비 워크숍’을 열고 국제 미식도시 도약을 위한 전략 점검에 나섰다.

시에 따르면 유네스코 창의도시 네트워크는 도시의 문화적 자산과 창의성을 기반으로 창의산업을 육성하고 도시 간 협력을 촉진하기 위해 운영되는 국제 네트워크로, 건축·공예와 민속예술·문학·음악·디자인·미디어아트·미식·영화 등 8개 분야로 구성된다.

이번 워크숍은 포항시의 UCCN 미식 분야 가입 추진을 위한 핵심 주체들의 이해도 제고와 공감대 형성을 목적으로 마련됐다. 미식·문화·교육·도시재생 등 다양한 분야의 전문가와 기관·단체 대표, 종사자 등 20여 명이 참석해 특강과 질의응답, 의견 수렴 및 정책 제안 순으로 진행됐다.

한건수 유네스코 한국위원회 창의도시 네트워크 자문위원장은 ‘유네스코 창의도시 네트워크와 미식 창의도시: 포항의 비전’을 주제로 특강을 진행했다. 그는 유엔 지속가능발전목표(SDGs)와 연계한 도시 전략 수립의 중요성을 강조하며, 전문 인재 양성과 국제교류 역량 강화, 전 부서 협업을 통한 전 도시적 접근이 필요하다고 제언했다.

또한 한 위원장은 이날 오전 포항시 간부공무원 조찬포럼에서도 같은 주제로 강연하며 인구 감소와 지역 소멸 등 구조적 변화 속에서 도시 경쟁력을 확보하기 위한 전략적 대응의 필요성을 강조했다. 아울러 유네스코 창의도시 네트워크의 개념과 성장 현황, 활동 분야를 소개하고 글로벌 도시 간 교류 확대 방향을 제시했다.

특강 이후 이어진 토론에서는 ▲포항이 지향하는 미식 창의도시 비전과 추진 방향 ▲창의 인재 육성 및 시민 참여 확대 방안 ▲관계기관 및 지역 업계 협력체계 구축 등을 중심으로 다양한 의견이 공유됐다.

박재민 환경국장은 “미식 창의도시 가입 추진은 포항의 문화·관광·산업을 연계하는 새로운 성장 동력이 될 것”이라며 “미식 분야 창의도시 가입을 통해 지역 식품산업과 관광 경쟁력을 높이고 도시 브랜드 가치를 한층 강화하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 포항시는 유네스코 창의도시 네트워크 미식 분야 가입을 목표로 단계별 준비를 진행하고 있으며, 지역 고유 식문화 자산을 체계적으로 발굴·육성하고 미식 산업 기반을 강화해 나갈 방침이다.

Approximately 20 experts, representatives of organizations, and practitioners from various fields, including gastronomy, culture, education, and urban regeneration, attended the workshop, which consisted of special lectures, Q&A sessions, feedback sessions, and policy proposals.

Han Geon-soo, Chair of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network Advisory Committee, delivered a special lecture on "The UNESCO Creative Cities Network and the Creative City of Gastronomy: Pohang's Vision." He emphasized the importance of establishing a city strategy aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and suggested the need for a city-wide approach through fostering professional talent, strengthening international exchange capabilities, and collaboration across all departments.

Chairman Han also delivered a lecture on the same topic at the Pohang City Senior Civil Servants Breakfast Forum that morning, emphasizing the need for a strategic response to secure city competitiveness amid structural changes such as population decline and regional extinction. He also introduced the concept, growth status, and areas of activity of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, and proposed ways to expand exchanges between global cities.

The discussion that followed the lecture focused on various topics, including: Pohang's vision and direction for becoming a Creative City of Gastronomy; measures to foster creative talent and expand citizen participation; and the establishment of a cooperative system with relevant organizations and local industries.

Park Jae-min, Director of the Environment Bureau, stated, "The pursuit of Pohang's Creative City of Gastronomy designation will serve as a new growth engine, linking culture, tourism, and industry. By joining the Creative City of Gastronomy, we will enhance the competitiveness of the local food industry and tourism, further strengthening the city's brand value."

Meanwhile, Pohang is making step-by-step preparations toward joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the gastronomy category. It plans to systematically discover and foster the region's unique culinary cultural assets and strengthen the foundation of the gastronomy industry.
