한국도서 해외전파사업은 대한출판문화협회가 도서 진흥사업의 일환으로 한국의 책을 세계에 널리 알리기 위해 시행하고 있는 사업이다.

선정된 도서는 20여 개국의 한글학교, 도서관, 해외대학 한국어 학과 등에 기증하게 된다. 한국도서 해외전파사업을 통해 2019년까지 각종 기관에 약 560,000여 권의 도서가 기증됐다.

한국문화예술위원회 2018 평론부문 도서로 선정된 ‘범죄소설의 계보학(소나무, P376, 18,000원)’을 통해 범죄소설에 문학적 시민권을 부여하자고 설파한 영문학자 계정민 교수가, ‘남성섹슈얼리티의 위계’에서는 브론테(Charlotte Brontë), 엘리엇(George Eliot), 로렌스(D. H. Lawrence), 헤밍웨이(Ernest Hemingway), 챈들러(Raymond Chandler) 같은 18세기부터 20세기까지의 영미작가들의 작품을 통해 남성섹슈얼리티 재현을 살피고 있다. 1부 ‘소년과 독신남성’, 2부 ‘남성동성애자’, 3부 ‘장애남성’등 3부로 구성된 이 책은 지금까지 제대로 논의되지 않았던 남성섹슈얼리티를 본격적으로 수면 위로 끌어낸 저서다.

계정민 교수는“이 책에서 남성섹슈얼리티는 단 한 번도 단독적으로 사유되거나 순수하게 취급되지 않았다는 사실을 보여주려 한다.”며, “남성섹슈얼리티 담론의 장 어디에도 성애·성행위·성생활과 관련된 논의가 보이지 않기 때문이다.”고 말했다. 그러면서, 오히려 남성섹슈얼리티가 자본주의, 가부장제, 제국주의, 이성애주의, 연령주의, 국가주의, 비장애인중심주의가 관철되고 작동하는 장이라고 책을 통해 강조하고 있다.

계정민 교수는 서강대학교 영문과에서 학부와 대학원을 마치고, 미국 플로리다 주립대에서 영문학 박사학위를 받았다. 1997년 가을부터 계명대 영문학전공 교수로 재직 중이다. 범죄, 섹슈얼리티, 남성성, 소비, 스펙터클 등의 주제에 관심이 많으며, 관련 논문으로는 ‘스펙터클에 대한 매혹과 혐오: 빅토리아 시대 댄디의 사회학’, ‘범죄라는 질병과 추리소설의 치유’, ‘계급, 인종, 범죄 : 빅토리아시대 영국 추리소설’, ‘근대 영국에서의 위계화된 남성섹슈얼리티와 “홀로 저지르는 죄악”’, ‘계급, 민족, 섹슈얼리티 : 18세기 영국 동성애 담론’, ‘하드보일드 추리소설의 남성동성애 성정치학’ 등이 있다. ‘범죄소설의 계보학 ― 탐정은 왜 귀족적인 백인남성인가’와 ‘남성섹슈얼리티의 위계’를 썼고, 실버포크 소설과 댄디에 관한 책을 준비하고 있다.
