메가젠임플란트는 대구 본사를 두고 있는 의료기기 중견기업으로, 임플란트 및 치과용 의료기자재를 유럽, 미국 등 100여 개국에 수출하고 있다. 2011년 수출 1천만 달러를 달성한 이후 빠르게 성장하며, 2024년에는 수출액 2억 달러를 기록할 예정이다.

이번 협약에 따라 메가젠은 대구 성서5차산업단지 내 3,815㎡(1,156평) 부지에 약 107억 원을 투자하여 ‘디지털센터’를 건립한다. 디지털센터는 3D 프린팅과 스캐너를 활용한 맞춤형 임플란트 및 교정기 제조, 증강현실(AR)을 활용한 수술 내비게이션 시스템 등 첨단 기술을 적용해 디지털 덴티스트리 시장 선점을 목표로 한다. 디지털 덴티스트리는 환자의 구강 정보를 디지털화하여 최적화된 진료를 제공하는 방식이다.

이 프로젝트는 약 60명의 신규 고용 창출이 기대되며, 디지털센터는 올해 6월 착공해 12월부터 운영을 시작할 예정이다. 한국은 현재 세계 2위의 치과용 임플란트 수출국으로, 메가젠을 비롯한 대구 소재 기업들이 큰 역할을 하고 있다. 2024년 말 기준 치과용 임플란트 수출액은 8억 7,700만 달러를 기록했다.

대구에는 국내 치과 임플란트 제조 상위 10개사 중 3개 기업이 본사를 두고 있으며, 이들 모두 빠르게 성장하고 있다. 메가젠은 특히 디지털 영상진단, CAD(컴퓨터 설계)/CAM(컴퓨터 제작), 3D 프린팅 등 다양한 디지털 기술을 활용하여 임플란트 시술을 혁신하고 있다.

박광범 메가젠임플란트 대표는 “디지털 기술이 치과 의료 분야에서 폭넓게 활용되고 있으며, 동종업계에서 디지털 기술 경쟁력을 확보하고자 디지털센터 설립을 결정했다”며, “앞으로도 지속적인 투자를 통해 글로벌 기술 리더로 자리매김하겠다”고 말했다.

김정기 대구광역시장 권한대행 행정부시장은 “메가젠임플란트가 지역에 확장 투자를 해주셔서 감사드리며, 신속한 공장 준공을 원스톱으로 지원하고 글로벌 혁신기업으로 도약할 수 있도록 아낌없는 지원을 하겠다”고 밝혔다.

 Daegu City, Megagen Implant Signs Investment Agreement for Establishment of Digital Center

On April 28, Daegu Metropolitan City (Acting Mayor Kim Jeong-gi) signed an investment agreement with Megagen Implant Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Gwang-beom), the second largest implant sales company in Korea, at the Daegu City Hall Sanggyeok Building to establish a ‘digital center.’

Megagen Implant is a mid-sized medical device company headquartered in Daegu that exports implants and dental medical equipment to over 100 countries including Europe and the United States. Since achieving exports of $10 million in 2011, it has grown rapidly and is expected to record exports of $200 million by 2024.

According to this agreement, Megagen will invest approximately KRW 10.7 billion on a 3,815㎡ (1,156 pyeong) site in the Daegu Seongseo 5th Industrial Complex to establish a ‘digital center.’ The digital center aims to dominate the digital dentistry market by applying cutting-edge technologies such as customized implant and braces manufacturing using 3D printing and scanners, and surgical navigation systems using augmented reality (AR). Digital dentistry is a method of providing optimized treatment by digitizing patients' oral information.

This project is expected to create about 60 new jobs, and the digital center is scheduled to begin construction in June of this year and begin operation in December. Korea is currently the world's second largest exporter of dental implants, and companies located in Daegu, including Megagen, are playing a major role. As of the end of 2024, dental implant exports amounted to $877 million.

Three of the top 10 domestic dental implant manufacturers are headquartered in Daegu, and all of them are growing rapidly. Megagen is innovating implant procedures by utilizing various digital technologies, such as digital imaging diagnosis, CAD (computer-aided design)/CAM (computer-aided manufacturing), and 3D printing.

Park Gwang-beom, CEO of Megagen Implant, said, “Digital technology is being widely used in the dental medical field, and we decided to establish a digital center to secure digital technology competitiveness in the same industry,” and added, “We will continue to invest in the future to establish ourselves as a global technology leader.”
