지난달 2일, 포항제철소 해양환경지킴이봉사단은 포항시 북구 여남동 해안 둘레길에서 플로깅과 비치코밍을 진행했다. 무더운 날씨 속에서도 오전 9시부터 약 5시간 동안 해안가 정화활동을 이어가며 깨끗한 바다 환경 조성에 힘썼다.
해양환경지킴이봉사단은 2022년부터 활동을 시작해 환경정화, 바다사랑 캠페인 등으로 꾸준히 봉사활동을 이어오고 있다. 특히 올해 일부 해수욕장이 십여 년 만에 개장되면서 많은 피서객이 찾은 가운데, 이들의 꾸준한 활동이 포항의 아름다운 해양환경 유지에 기여했다는 평가다.
이어 지난 9일에는 리폼봉사단이 남구 청림동 일대에서 도배와 장판 교체 등 주거환경 개선 봉사에 나섰다. 27명의 봉사단원들이 참여해 쾌적하고 안전한 생활공간 조성에 구슬땀을 흘렸으며, 앞으로도 취약계층의 주거환경 개선을 위한 활동을 지속할 예정이다.
또한 지난달 22일에는 2025년도 신입사원 봉사활동이 진행됐다. 신입사원들은 오천 서원을 찾아 문화재 모니터링과 환경 정비, 시설 점검, 재기그릇 닦기 등 문화재 보존 활동을 펼쳤다. 아울러 원목 벤치 20개를 제작해 대한민국월남전참전자회 경북지부 포항시지회에 기증하며 지역사회와의 상생에도 힘을 보탰다.
포항제철소 관계자는 “8월 한 달간 다양한 재능봉사단원들이 지역 곳곳에서 활동하며 실질적인 도움을 나눴다”며, “앞으로도 지역사회와 이웃들을 위한 다양한 사회공헌 활동을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.

Twenty-seven volunteers participated, working tirelessly to create a comfortable and safe living environment. They plan to continue their work to improve the living conditions of vulnerable groups.
Furthermore, on the 22nd of last month, the 2025 New Employee Volunteer Program was held. The new employees visited Ocheon Seowon, a Confucian academy, to monitor cultural heritage sites, maintain the environment, inspect facilities, and clean porcelain dishes. They also contributed to the local community by creating 20 wooden benches and donating them to the Pohang branch of the North Gyeongsang Province branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Korea.
A POSCO representative stated, "During the month of August, our talented volunteers worked in various locations throughout the region, providing practical assistance. We will continue to engage in diverse social contribution activities for the local community and our neighbors."
