포스코는 포스코1%나눔재단 사업의 일환으로 ‘함께 자라는 교실’ 프로젝트를 시행한다고 밝혔다. 해당 사업은 특수교육 대상 학생들이 보다 안전하고 쾌적한 환경에서 학습할 수 있도록 지원하는 데 목적이 있다.

포스코1%나눔재단은 2013년 설립된 비영리 공익법인으로, 포스코그룹 및 협력사 임직원들이 매월 급여의 1%를 자발적으로 기부하고 회사가 매칭그랜트 방식으로 참여해 운영된다. 재단은 지난해까지 누적 모금액 1,160억 원을 달성하며 다양한 사회공헌활동을 펼쳐왔다.

이번 사업은 포항·광양·서울 지역 국·공립 초등학교 특수학급을 대상으로 진행된다. 포스코는 교실 내 안전성과 편의성을 높이기 위해 논슬립 바닥 시공, 문턱 제거, 완충 쿠션 설치 등 시설 개선을 추진하고, 감각 과민 학생을 위한 저자극 색채 기반 휴식 공간도 조성할 계획이다.

아울러 장애 유형별 맞춤형 학습 보조기구 지원도 병행한다. 지체장애 학생을 위한 휠체어, 시각장애 학생을 위한 독서확대기, 발달장애 학생을 위한 보완대체 의사소통(AAC) 기기 등을 지원해 학습 참여도를 높이고 교사의 수업 운영 효율성도 제고할 방침이다.

포스코 관계자는 “단순한 시설 개선을 넘어 특수교육 대상 학생들이 존중받으며 성장할 수 있는 교육 환경을 조성하는 데 의미가 있다”며 “교육격차 해소와 공교육 강화를 위한 정책 기조에 발맞춰 지속적인 지원을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.

사업 신청은 오는 4월 30일까지 포스코1%나눔재단 홈페이지를 통해 접수할 수 있으며, 서류 및 현장 심사를 거쳐 지원 학교를 선정한다. 리모델링 공사는 여름방학 기간 중 진행될 예정이다.

포스코는 2018년부터 사업장 소재 지역을 중심으로 장애인 복지 향상과 사회 참여 확대를 위한 다양한 지원사업을 이어오고 있다. 주요 사업으로는 장애 아동 재활 지원 프로그램 ‘희망의 징검다리’, 장애 영유아와 가족을 지원하는 ‘가족중심 조기개입’, 장애인 생활체육 활성화 프로젝트 등이 있다.

특히 광양시의 무장애 도시 조성 정책과 연계해 추진 중인 ‘무장애도시 광양만들기 사업’을 통해 지역 내 식당, 카페, 약국 등 소규모 시설에 경사로를 설치하는 등 이동권 보장에도 힘쓰고 있다. 현재까지 97곳에 경사로 설치를 완료하며 지역사회 배리어프리 환경 조성에 기여하고 있다.

포스코그룹은 앞으로도 미래세대 육성과 지역사회 상생을 위해 복지 사각지대를 발굴하고 사회적 책임을 지속적으로 실천해 나간다는 방침이다.

It is operated through voluntary monthly donations of 1% of the salaries by employees of POSCO Group and its partner companies, with the company participating via a matching grant system. The foundation has carried out various social contribution activities, achieving a cumulative fundraising amount of 116 billion won as of last year.

This project will be conducted for special education classes in national and public elementary schools in the Pohang, Gwangyang, and Seoul regions. POSCO plans to implement facility improvements to enhance safety and convenience within classrooms, such as installing non-slip flooring, removing door thresholds, and installing cushioning pads. Additionally, it intends to create resting spaces based on low-stimulation colors for students with sensory hypersensitivity.

Furthermore, the company will provide customized learning aids tailored to different types of disabilities. By supplying wheelchairs for students with physical disabilities, reading magnifiers for the visually impaired, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices for students with developmental disabilities, POSCO aims to increase learning engagement and improve the efficiency of teachers' instruction.

Applications for the project can be submitted via the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation website until April 30. Supported schools will be selected through document and on-site evaluations. Remodeling work is scheduled to take place during the summer vacation. Since 2018, POSCO has been carrying out various support programs aimed at improving the welfare of people with disabilities and expanding their social participation, focusing on the regions where its business sites are located. Key initiatives include the "Bridge of Hope" rehabilitation support program for children with disabilities, "Family-Centered Early Intervention" to support infants and families with disabilities, and a project to promote recreational sports for people with disabilities.

In particular, through the "Creating a Barrier-Free City of Gwangyang" project, which is being pursued in conjunction with Gwangyang City's policy to create a barrier-free city, POSCO is striving to guarantee mobility rights by installing ramps in small-scale facilities such as local restaurants, cafes, and pharmacies. To date, ramps have been installed at 97 locations, contributing to the creation of a barrier-free environment in the local community.
